Z ~ Zeitlang

Zeitlang is a word we used while we were Amish. I haven't found a single English word that is big enough to translate everything zeitlang encompasses.

    It's homesickness
    It's a yearning
    It's an achingly beautiful longing
    It's missing someone
    It's an unfulfilled dream

    It's zeitlang

  4. First of all I wish to thank you for your very informative and nspiring alphabeth. I learnt a lot, today even about my own German language, as I was not familiar with Zeitlang. Nowadays it is written in two words . Es regnet eine Zeit lang. Meaning for some time.
But then I found that Zeitlang still exists in the South of Germany, was used in love letters and is said to be the most beautiful Word Of the language.
So thank you once again and please stay healthy all of you.

  7. Nothing in English... surprising as it is a Germanic language...but try Welsh...and Hiraeth says something similar.

  8. Homesickness. Many in India are suffering now. They are forced to stay in metros without work. Slowly arrangements are being done to allow them to home far away. A challenge to society and individuals. Let us help each other.

An achingly beautiful longing. As another comment said Zeitlang was a word used in love letters. Makes sense.

  11. Sounds a lot like Portuguese "saudade" (used both in Portugal and Brazil). Great word to talk about that indescribable sadness that's the shadow o joy
