Q ~ Quelf

The letter Q doesn't have all that many options for blog post topics for me, this time around. So I'm turning to our game shelf again.
There is this innocent looking game tucked toward the back of a high shelf  in hopes Steven doesn't notice it. Out of sight out of mind. Right?
He loves it. I loathe it.
I can play a lot of games I don't particularly care for, but Quelf is too much. It requires all sorts of humiliating, uncomfortable, and rude things to be done in order to advance your game piece on the board.
None of the rest of the family likes it either, which means the only time Steven gets to play it is if I help him.
I won't donate it yet, maybe never. I have contemplated saving it and giving it to his children if he ever has any and telling them their Daddy would love to help them play. The thought of watching him play it with his children is the only good thing I can think of for the game of Quelf.

  1. I'd never heard of this game, so I went out and looked it up. I doesn't sound appealing to me, either, but I think younger kids - how old is Steven? - probably would enjoy it. Maybe he could have a game party and get some of his friends to play it with him?

    1. Some people seem to like it. It's simply not my type of fun.

  2. I've never heard of Quelf. There are so many games I've never heard of, especially the newer ones. We always played Monopoly, Life, Sorry, Aggravation and the like. You could always use my last name-Queen!

    1. There are so many games out there! I still like the classics best even as we incorporate other games into our game times.

Thanks for the offer to use your last name. Maybe next year's A-Z challenge. :)

  5. Did you ever set him down and tell him you don't like the game and why you don't? I've seen so many games for children that teach being rude is okay if you meant it as funny. Picking your nose is funny, passing gas is funny which too me is sad and disrespectful. I just went through this the last few years with my grandchildren and it makes me sad. I think it is also okay to get rid of the game. I love your blog and want you to know I think you are a great Mom.

    1. I did go through the cards and told him some of them will not be used, and why. I still don't like the game though.

  7. Oh, I think that’s a grand idea. Pass it on to his children.

    1. It only seems fair that he gets to play it as an adult. :)
