Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. March is National Women's History Month. In that vein, who are three women who've been influential in your life? How so?

First .... my mother. Her patience, love, and cheerfulness made a huge influence on my life. She believed in the sayings If Mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy, and the well known, Happy wife, happy life to be why it's important for her to stay cheerful no matter the circumstances. She didn't twist it as a way for people to cater to her, or think it was her husbands job to make her happy. She believed a woman controls whether or not the home is a happy one. She did her best to give us that.

My grandmothers were both influential in my life as well.

2. In what ways do you think women have it easier than men?

Different roles to fulfill here, and I think each has its own set of challenges. I like the security I feel in the leadership LV provides for our home and family and am glad he shoulders the responsibility for that.

3. What do you need most right now: faith, love, hope, or peace?

I need all four of them, though I can never have too much love. Even the Bible says love/charity is the greatest of them all.

4. Do you have a collection? If so, what do you collect and why?

I have well over a hundred cookbooks. I love cooking and trying new recipes. I'm not adding to the collection very often, but there are still cookbooks I would love to get.

5. Plaids, checks, polka dots, stripes...your favorite?

I think currently I like plaids the most. Rosebud just got several really nice skirts that are  plaid, and I think they're lovely.

6. In what ways are you the same as your childhood self?

This one is hard. In a lot of ways I simply feel like an older version of the child I used to be. I still have many of the same likes and dislikes.

7. You're a contestant on the TV game show Jeopardy. What category will you ace?

I have no idea. Since I never watch it, I don't even know what the categories are in Jeopardy.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Spring has sprung and we are already enjoying lovely afternoon walks. The last heaps of dirty snow are melting away. Birds are singing sweetly, and the springtime flowers are beginning to peep through. As much as I love winter, springtime is a delightful time of year!

  1. Your weather sounds much like ours here in GA. We should hit the upper 70's today and I'm more than ready for it! Enjoy your day!

  2. Cookbooks! Books don't count as collecting do they : ) I love cookbooks, and while I don't have the number you do, I have a good amount. I enjoy reading cookbooks. There's something comforting there. Enjoy your day!

    1. Books are more of a necessity than a collection in our house. We LOVE books!

  3. I have several cookbooks- it's funny because I am the queen of cooking with 5 ingredients or less. Maybe when I retire, I will love to cook more complex things from these books. Don't you just love when spring comes? We are currently having a load of rain; however, next week it will be in the 80's! Have a toad-ally awesome week!

  4. Absolutely agree on different roles. This is the day when 'women can do anything' is hounded on, but truth is, we are meant to complement men, as they are to us! Happy Wednesday!

  5. I think it sounds like your mother and my mother would've gotten along very well. Collections? I've had a few over the years. Usually when someone decides that they want to start giving me something specific and I end up with a small collection of them. My chosen collection would probably be books. Both my hubby and I love to read so we have a lot of books.
    Blessings, Betsy

  6. I love your mother's philosophy and wish more young women understood that today. I think it would make for much happier homes.

  8. I used to collect cookbooks, a few years ago when it looked like I'd have to move, I cut down on them. I don't cook that much, so it seemed silly to have so many. I do find it hard to pass up a Taste of Home cookbook if I find it, though.

    1. I really like Taste of Home cookbooks too. 99% of the recipes we try from them turn out great.

  9. Your mom sounds like a special person. I pray that I can have that kind of countenance in my home and around those I love. I need to work a bit in the patience department, I'm afraid.

We love cookbooks, too! My daughter and I are always trying new recipes. I even started a linkup on my blog a few years back called "Try a New Recipe Tuesday" so we can get even more ideas to try. :-)

I love winter, as well, but this weather has been delightful these last few days. The windows are open and waking up to the birds singing has been wonderful.

  12. You would ace any Bible category on Jeopardy. They have those frequently. I watch Jeopardy as often as I can, and it's fun when I "run the category (Jeopardy's term for answering all the questions in one category)" in the comfort of my own home. Of course, the greatest reward of knowing God's Word is knowing Him better. :)
