Weekend Adventures

Our weekend was, for the lack of a better word, interesting.

It started much the same as any other weekend does, with LV heading off to work, and the girls and I doing our weekly Saturday cleaning, while Sailor did yard work and helped out our elderly neighbor, and Buddy bounced around the house helping where ever he could.

All was going well until a terrific banging sound was heard coming from upstairs. Upon investigating I discovered Sunbeam was trapped inside the bathroom. The doorknob had quit working. I tried my best, but was unable to open the door.

Our focus of the day changed, now we tried our best to keep her entertained. The space under the door was only big enough to be able to slip a few crackers and pretzels through for her to eat, and Buddy kept drawing pictures and slipping them to her.

I called LV to tell him what was going on and ask for advice on how to get the door opened. He headed for home, and after working on the door for a while she was released.

That door knob got replaced. No one else was interested in having a similar experience.

It's that time of year when it's perfect to enjoy hiking the nearby trails. And Sunday afternoons happen to be the perfect time to do just that. The views along the trail are beautiful!

  1. Oh, that poor child. I'm glad it was Sunshine and not Buddy.
When my eldest as three I locked myself out of the house, and spent a fair amount of time trying to calm a frightened child and explain how to open the door. The screen door had one of those hook-and-eye things and when it slammed behind me the hook fell over and landed in the eye. She had to drag the trash can over to the door and stand on it to let me in. It was hard to tell which of us was the most upset.

  2. I remember a similar incident happened when my girls were little. They'd been invited to a play date when the little girl they were visiting locked herself in the bathroom (by accident). I got a call from the frantic mother asking if I could pick my girls up, while her husband was on the way to get the child out right then. My girls have never forgotten that day!

By the way, what a gorgeous picture! You are blessed to live near such beautiful scenery.

  3. My mother locked herself in a pubic toilet in the UK once upon a time. I don't remember how she got out. She had claustrophobia though so it wasn't funny. Glad you got your child out OK. Nasty experience for her.

  4. I remember reading that on facebook this weekend. I feel bad now because I was smiling as I read it. The same thing happened to me as a child and I rather enjoyed my time in there. We had a cute little built in vanity with a mirror on it and I played with all of the hair clips, etc. while waiting to be rescued.
    Blessings,

  5. One time I was in a public restroom and locked myself into a stall. I could not get it open for the life of me! I had to wait until I was fairly sure that the bathroom was empty of anyone else and then crawl under the door! Blech! Crawling on a public restroom floor! I still get the willies thinking about it.
