Apple Goodie

After mentioning the Apple Goodie yesterday I received a lot of emails requesting the recipe so I decided to share it today.

Apple Goodie

3 large apples (a tart variety work best)

Peel apples. I like shredding them but finely diced or very thinly sliced would work as well. Spread in bottom of 9x13 pan.

½ cup butter
½ cup hot water
1 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp cinnamon

Melt butter. Add sugar and stir. Add water, vanilla, and cinnamon. Stir well and bring to a full rolling boil, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and pour over apples.

1 cup oatmeal
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup flour
½ tsp baking powder
2/3 cup softened butter.

In a medium bowl mix all ingredients together until you have nice uniform crumbs. Sprinkle over the apples and pat firmly.

Bake in a preheated 350ยบ oven for 45 minutes. You have several options as a way to serve. Absolutely delicious when served hot with vanilla ice-cream. Or if you were serving it to my brothers they would request cold milk and practically drown the apple goodie in it. We prefer to eat it cold most of the time.

  1. Thank you for sharing the recipe. I have some apples sitting on my counter right now that I need to use, so I think I will try this.

    Have a wonderful day.

  2. Thank you so much! My mouth is watering. I should make this tonight or tomorrow for dessert to bless my husband.

  3. This will e dessert this weekend, the air will be crisp & cooler. TYSM for sharing, Mary Ann.

    Have a great week ~
    TTFN ~

  4. Sounds delicious and pretty simple to make. Thanks for sharing.

  5. Have you ever tried it with less sugar?

The recipe sounds essentially good, but WAY too sweet for me. (For example, when we make an apple pie with tart apples, we use maybe 1/3 cup of sugar.) I'm not questioning anyone's taste - just wondering if there's a real reason for that much sugar, aside from personal taste.

  6. Wow... delicious! :) That sounds a lot like an Apple Crisp that we make. Thanks for sharing! ;)

    In Christ,

  7. Our apple trees are loaded with fruit. I need to get busy and give this recipe a try.

  8. I'll be trying this apple goodie, too. We have plenty of apples right now, since I'm making applesauce.
My children don't like diced, cooked apple chunks in their dessert. So I'll give the grated apples a try. :)

  9. Phew!!! I have been reading your blog for about 6 months and am finally "current"! Looking forward to checking in "real time".

  10. I've saved this recipe in my (even borrowed your photograph without asking, so now I'll apologize.) I'm looking forward to trying this one soon.

  11. We've been making a similar version lately. We have a whole box of apples to use up and making what we call "Apple Brown Betty" is a good way to use them up and it is such a nice fall desert.

Sometimes I let the children have for breakfast served with homemade yogurt.

  12. How do u shred the apples? A cheese grater?

  13. I just made your recipe tonight, and it was Delicious! Funny thing is, my husband told me that he thought it would be great in the morning served with milk. I told him that that's exactly the way you said your brothers liked to eat it! Thanks for sharing this with us!

  14. Thanks for the recipe, it was wonderful especially with ice cream!!

  15. we make something very similar in Australia, we call it apple crumble.
I like it made with peaches as well
I usually eat it with creamy yoghurt or cream. Yum!

Thank you so much for taking time to comment. I love hearing your thoughts.
