The First Day

I love the feeling of eager anticipation that comes as you are busy with all the preparations of getting ready to leave on vacation. The trip we had planned to take to New Mexico with our friends we had been looking forward to for months already. And now with all the clothes sewed and packed into suitcases and everything else taken care of we were ready to leave.

Once we got to Oklahoma it finally felt real, that we were actually on our way. We visited as we drove and since it had been a year since the last time we had seen our friends we had a lot of catching up to do.

Once we reached Amarillo we decided to stop and find a motel for the night. Somehow we managed to get into the residential part of the city and were entertained with all the different signs people had in their front yards. Somehow we wound up on a dead end street and had to turn around. The sign right next to the driveway had these comforting words. "They'll bury them in the rain"  We scanned the sky and were happy to see that it didn't look like there was any rain on the way and quickly hurried away again.

We soon found a place to eat and then a motel and looked forward to a good night of sleep and then being able to be on our way the next morning.

  3. Haha! What a thing post on your lawn!
What fun, though, to travel with friends.

Unlike you, I hate getting ready for a trip - I suppose it would be easier if we didn't have to pack for most of our meals on the road - but I always put it off for as long as possible.

  4. Ah, Amarillo - it always feels to me like I am half way to nowhere, but half way away from somewhere, any time we drive through it. :)

    But the people are friendly.
    Blessings to you - Marsha

  5. The sign makes me curious as to its meaning. Sounds like you like to travel. I am like “KnitWit”, when I was young and single I did not mind travel but after marriage, I found I did not like it at all and really like just being home. There is more than enough to keep me interested in this one place, and it is cheaper.
