Sideling Hill

I hope everyone is enjoying their long weekend!  Since LV doesn't have the day off today we decided to do our fun little get away yesterday. We don't have very far to Sideling Hill and thought it might be just the thing since the views there are breath taking. There are picnic tables along the edge where you can look out over the mountains while you enjoy your lunch. They closed their exhibit center but a few trails are still open so we got to enjoy those. Another great thing about this place is that it isn't packed with tourists like most attractions which makes it much more enjoyable to us.
The view from the top of the trail of stairs.
The bridge is still open to walk across the highway to follow the trail on the other side.
It was worth climbing the one hundred twenty seven steps to be able to see the views from up there. I did wish they would have continued on to the top of the hill. I can only imagine how great the would have been from there.

We enjoyed our short excursion and hope to do it again someday.

What are you doing for the holiday?

  1. We will be getting the rest of our garden in today. It is supposed to be near 100 where we live, so before the day is through, we will probably take a dip in the creek!

  5. We used to drive through there lots of times on our way home to West Virginia. It's been years since we've been there. I remember going in the museum but I don't think we ever walked up to see the view. I don't remember their being a bridge when we were there but Wow that has been well over 15 years since we've traveled that way. My how times passes!

    Have a Great Day!

  6. It's not a holiday weekend over here in South Africa. We have had so many Public Holidays recently that now, we must work or study!

  7. Those are nifty pictures of your holiday excursion. We like off-the-hard-beaten-path places to visit, too.
Today we watered all the plants in both vegetable gardens and my flowers. It's going to be a literal scorcher here in the South with a high of ninety four degrees along with enough humidity to wash a load of clothes. ;) Other than that we may take in a further into the country drive and a takeout meal.
