D ~ Dishes

Growing up in an Amish home we were used to having the walls bare except for clocks and calendars and in some homes, a row or two of hooks for hats and coats. That didn't mean we didn't like pretty things.
One thing we could do to satisfy the need for beauty, was collecting pretty dishes that we liked displaying in our china cupboards, or maybe next to a clock on the clock shelf.
I was especially fond of blue, so for birthdays and Christmases while we were dating, LV would often give me some pretty dishes. I still enjoy displaying them in my china cupboard just like I did while we were still Amish.

Rosebud is also doing the A-Z challenge this year. Hop over to her blog, Little Bits of Lovely to check it out.

  1. Thank you for sharing such a lovely post. My husband's favourite colour is blue and the first flower he ever bought me was a blue rose. Special moments.

  3. I love those glasses!

My husband and I enjoy going to Ethridge, TN to visit the Amish community there. The fresh baked bread and peanut brittle can't be beat..and those fried pies!!

I find myself very interested in your story. Will have to delve into your blog!

  5. Absolutely beautiful! The dishes I have belonged to my grandmother. They are so special to me. :-) Blue is my hubby's favorite color, too. I am enjoying the series and will go over and check out what your daughter has written. I am participating in it, as well, and for D, I shared our recipe for our homemade donuts. Have a great day!

  7. Seems as if lot of us like blue! My sister collected Ruby Thumbprint glassware, and had several sherbet glasses very similar in shape to the two blue ones you have in your china closet. I really like the pattern of your china; do you use it for Sunday dinner or special occasions, or is it just "there"?

    1. It's mostly just there, but once in a great while I'll use it. For a special anniversary dinner or something along that nature.

  9. Very pretty collection of dishes. They do make wonderful gifts and keepsakes for generations to come. Some of my favorites are ones that belonged to my grandmother and mother. My Letter D is about dishes, too.

  13. I've always loved tea cups and saucers. I collected them for a while, but have not seen them since we moved. I think they're still packed away.

    Lovely china cabinet!

  15. In India, we usually have a set of dishes stored and kept as decorative items just like you have. These dishes are used only to serve guests. :)

  16. Your china hutch is so pretty filled with all the blue items. It's funny because blue china has always been the prettiest to me. My wedding china was even in blue, and it looks similar to the one in your cabinet.
