Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. Share one way you think the world has changed for the better since you were a kid?

I think the world is a better place thanks to self stick stamps, address labels, and envelopes. No more having that awful taste in your mouth simply from getting the mail ready.

2. How 'bout one way it's changed for the worse?

Unfortunately it seems as if good old common sense has been on a steady decline.

3. Starlight, starfish, starling, Starbucks...your favorite 'star'?

I love starlight. Not enough that I'm tempted to go camping or anything like that. But I do love seeing the stars come out at night and admiring them before I go to sleep in my very comfortable bed.

4. Name a song that's overplayed, but you love it anyway.

I don't get to listen to a radio often enough to know what songs are being overplayed. If we're also talking about hearing songs being sung, I never tire of hearing Sunbeam sing her favorite song over and over again.

5. When did you last have home made ice cream? Your latest favorite flavor?

The last time I had homemade ice cream has to be ten years ago. My favorite flavor of ice cream is vanilla, but since I don't like eating ice cream all that well the only times I enjoy it is if there is a nice hot pizza to eat with it. Alternating bites of pizza and ice cream makes that I can actually enjoy it.

6. What do you think is the best way to inspire or motivate people?

By being optomistic, encouraging, and generally joyful. I find I always feel more motivated and inspired when in contact with people like that.

7. When was the last time you were without power?

Last week, but only for a a little while. The last time we were without power that really affected us was several months ago.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Last night we woke up to hear some bumping and banging and upon investgation found a raccoon had opened what we thought was a securely closed container holding our dog and cat food and was feasting on it.

Our cat and her two little kittens were sitting there watching interestedly. The raccoon was chased away and the pet food moved into the basement where it will be safe from night time prowelers.

  1. Oh I am not a fan of raccoons...were they in the house, or was the food outside? I'm hoping outside!

  2. Those rascal raccoons are just too smart! We've had similar experiences with them.

  3. I finally gave up and started buying the cheapest dog food I could find and put that out each evening for the raccoons. They also eat chicken bones, which I can't give to my dog, so it works out. Around this time of year, Mama starts bringing her kits up to eat, too, and my husband and I get such please from them!

  4. Oh raccoons!! They're so notorious at night, i keep my pets inside thankfully! One night we thought our dog was going through the pantry which was odd since she never did that. Anyway my mom kept hearing it and saw that the dog was sleeping next to the bed and so were the cats. She got up and turned the lights on but the raccoon was gone. We had a dog door before that now we've boarded up. Anyway a raccoon had gotten in and ate all the cat food & ripped open packages of food in our pantry. (sigh) Another time we had used a racoon trap where the gate gets shut when they get inside. Our cat Wiley got stuck in there. He was fine but furious and so were we because his commotion was so loud it woke us up.

  5. Ah yes, we've had a few visits from raccoons at our new house. Our real problem is that there is a family of skunks under the shed coming for the sweet feed. We're crossing our fingers that they don't spray the dogs.
