Picture my Week

We heard about the "Blue Spring" several years ago, it's somewhat of a local secret. There are no maps on how to get there, which helps keep it from becoming a spot clogged with visitors. We've searched for it a number of times, unsuccessfully. This week we finally found it. Pictures don't do it justice, the water is really clear, and really blue. I can't wait to see it next summer when everything is green, instead of dead and brown. We agree it was worth the effort it took to find it.

Steven spent hours playing with his cars, rolling them down a "bridge" he engineered.

The sunrises were lovely. Each uniquely different, and yet all enjoyed equally.

The girls were spending a few hours every day working on making Christmas ornaments. I think they're all turning out well, but I especially love the little "Snowman hats"

There was a lot happening this week, such as spending time with Amish people I hadn't seen in over twenty years, going to a Planetarium, the sewing class where I'm teaching an eager young group the joys of sewing, and much more. Those were all times when I was so involved in the moment I forgot I have a camera nearby.

  3. What glorious sunrises!!
Steven is just a couple of years younger than my little grandson and I well remember all the bridges and roads that were set up in my sunroom.
As you may have gathered one of our sons, his wife and 2 children ( the youngest of our grands) live in half of our house. 11 years ago we made some major changes to our house to accommodate them. It works well. Our son is always here to help when we need him. And we see those precious grands every day ( ages 8 and 14).

    1. I think it's great how you made changes to your house to accommodate your son and children! And how great that you get to see your grandchildren daily.

  5. The Blue Spring is so pretty, and the sunrises really are quite lovely. I'm a morning person, so I often see the sunrises more than the sunsets. Boys will keep themselves busy for a long time with cars and trains and forts. Oh, these Christmas ornaments are so cute. Do I see a red rose in the bunch? What a fun project this is.

    1. The ornament that looks rose like in the picture is actually a bell. Poor camera angle. :)

  6. Many, many years ago I taught sewing classes at my dad's church. I rounded up a half-dozen portable machines, and an equal number of women, and we started off with housecoats. Everybody needs one, and nobody sees it but you, so if we make some blunders it'll be OK. I can't remember what else we made, but we saved all the scraps and made doll clothes for Christmas.

    1. I started my class off on pillowcases as something simple. Next up we'll being making aprons. That ought to be interesting since the skill level will be stepped up a few notches.

  8. Oh, those sunrises take my breath away -- magnificent. One can't help but experience a bit of awe in seeing this. I adore the Snowman hat. How fun for the kids to be doing this. It's that time, isn't it?

Thanks for coming to Marmelade Gypsy. I'm delighted to return the visit and join as a follower. I've recently connected with my ancestors' Mennonite faith, something I never knew much about, and in the process of researching their lives learned a bit about the Amish as well, so I will be interested to read of both your day-to-day posts and the stories of your past.

  9. Your pictures are truly breathtaking!!

It is wonderful that you are teaching sewing. My daughter has taken lessons for 7 years now and has become quite the seamstress. I think it is so important for the hand arts to not be lost. :)
