Family Life

One of the highlights of every month used to be when the mailman delivered our latest issue of the Family Life magazine.  Published in the Old Order Amish community of Aylmer Ontario but well know through out almost all Amish communities.

Written by and for the Amish, each issue contains quite a selection of stories that wives and mothers enjoy, as well as a section devoted to recipes, nature, children's stories, health, and an advice column. There are poems and puzzles sprinkled throughout. A fun publication that the whole family enjoys!

If you would like a chance to win a one year subscription of this magazine leave a comment telling me what your favorite kind of cookies are.

For an additional entry post a link to this giveaway on your blog and come back and leave another comment.

I will draw a winner on Monday March 14th using Random Generator.
Giveaway is now closed.
Disclaimer: The only compensation I get from doing this giveaway is the warm fuzzy feeling I get from knowing someone else will get to enjoy this publication.

Just call me the 'Cookie Monster', I like all homemade ones! (store bought tastes like the paper packages they come in, to me.) My first choice is chocolate chip, then Mom's peanut butter ones, or her brownines, or the brown sugar brownies (some call them 'scotchies' I think.) I love, love, love lemon bars too!

Thank you for this give away 'contest'.

My favorite homemade cookie is Chocolate chip (I prefer the dough to the baked cookie! :~P) I do love the Carmel and Coconut cookies that the Girl Scouts sell (They are always changing the name so not sure what it is) and store bought cookies is a toss up with Fig Newtons and the chocolate covered marshmallow cookies sometimes called Pinwheels. But, hey, if it has chocolate, I love it! ;~D

Funny you should ask that question. My husband brought home two wrapped cookies for our children, one for each. What should I find inside!?!? My ABSOLUTE favorite: white chocolate macadamia nut cookies! I know he doesn't know that because we never buy cookies out and i have never made them at home.

I love Monster Cookies! That way I don't miss out on anything! :-)

Ann said...

I'm not sure what my favorite cookie is called. I've heard them referred to as Mexican Wedding Cakes, Russian Tea Cookies, and Snowballs. They have ground up nuts in the dough, and are rolled, twice, in confectioner's sugar after baking. They melt in your mouth and, in my opinion, are just yummy!

AverettLadyNana said...

Chocolate Chip with black walnuts in them! Also Dainty Strip...Not sure if that is the real name or not but they melt in your mouth. My great-aunt used to make them with a cookie press. About two inches or more long and little grooves and ridges running the length of them.

My favorite cookies are called Grassroot Dream Cookies. I found the recipe in a book I have and had to try it. They have oats, cornflakes and coconut in them and are so soft, even after they've sat for a few days...and yes, that's all they last.

I came across your blog linking from one site to another and enjoyed reading a little about your farm.

Favorite cookie? It would have to be the Finnish prune tarts that my mother always made at Christmas time.

I love all kinds of cookies no bakes, oatmeal, chocolate chip as long as they are homemade, fresh from the oven with a glass of milk. If I had to pick one it would be soft molasses cookies. I am enjoying reading your journey to where you are now in your life. Every ones lives are similar and yet so vastly different. We all want what is best for our family. Take care, Natalie

I really liked a recipe I tried not too long ago I think I found online, but I can't find it again. It was like an everything cookie (which I have searched for in various ways) with coconut, raisins, oatmeal, chocolate chips, and I think nuts.

I would be interested in the subscription information for those of us who don't win.

I love most any homemade cookies, but my very favorite is Molasses Sugar Cookies - I make them every Christmas (if I made them more often I would eat them!) and I also have a recipe called Amish Sugar Cookies that I love - they are very buttery and not too sweet. YUM! Now I think I have to go plan a cookie baking session! Karin

Kelly H said...

Mmmm I am now so hungry for cookies! :-) If this were my husband I would say Chocolate chip all the way! HOWEVER I am not my husband! I think chocolate crinkles are my favorite -- so soft and chewy with the fun cracked top, from rolling them in powdered sugar before baking. I've heard many wonderful things about Family Life, and I think it's so kind of you to offer a lucky reader a subscription.

I'm going to have to go with monster cookies, although that's partly because my mom is gluten-sensitive. But because she's not that bad, she can still have regular oats, so we can enjoy monster cookies and still get our chocolate-peanut butter fix.
