Random Post

With the chill of fall in the air I am once again in the mood to work on sewing projects. Rosebud and Sunbeam always get excited when I start new projects and have the grandest time digging through the piles of fabrics I have stashed away waiting to be used some creative winter day.

They found several yards of this colorful fabric and would love to each have a dress made out of it. The fabric is not what I would want to use for dresses but I would like to make something for them with it since they think it is so pretty. Any ideas what I could make?

I enjoy almost everything about fall. However there is one thing that I have never learned to like and that is the insects that try to get into the house. On Monday evening I wanted to open a door, and since I am not in the habit of checking doorknobs for wasps resting on them I never thought to check and promptly got stung by an irate wasp. Since I am one of those people that overly reacts to stings I was less than happy about it, as I watched my hand begin to swell. I hoped since it was a wasp instead of a bee or yellow jacket it wouldn't be too bad. Though it wasn't as bad it still caused plenty of discomfort, with a pincushion hand and a swollen eye. Thankfully I am getting back to normal, but I am wondering if I shouldn't have an emergency kit on hand to use if I ever get stung again.

Sunbeam's limp is gradually disappearing. Which makes all of us very happy.

  1. Make Rosy and Sunbeam aprons to wear while they are helping you in the kitchen.....

  2. I agree, aprons would be nice with that fabric. Yes, you should talk to your doctor about getting an epi-pen to keep on hand. The only bad thing is that they do expire in a year or two and you need to get a new one, but if you're that allergic you really should keep one on hand. It could be a life saver.

  3. I definitely agree with the apron suggestion. That fabric might also make darling curtains or pillow shams!

  4. I think you should make them smock/aprons like I made Livia. (see my blog scroll down a few posts) It would be cute with some coordinating bias tape to do the edges in. I'll let you use my pattern if you like.

  5. I agree than your pretty fabric would be perfect for aprons.
So happy to read about Sunbeam getting better.
Ice will help your bee sting, check to make sure the stinger is removed. If you have a serious allergic reaction you may want to get an epi-pen, like Farmwife suggested.

  9. I immediately nightgowns would be wonderful of that lovely fabric. I used to make them for my girls, and they were loved for years.

We've shifted to fall gear even in the South. It's apple picking time here in Tennessee.

  11. Such prety fabric. I'd make bedroom cushions with it (or do you call them pillows there?)

  12. Hello,
The material is so pretty! I am not a seamstress so I wouldn't know what to suggest. I can say the material has two of my favorite things: the color pink and pretty flowers, so anything made from it would be wonderful!! I am so sorry about your wasp sting. One day I was out watering my flowers and one just came up and stung me. I was just minding my business, too. It sure does hurt though, doesn't it? I have been reading over your posts and have not been able to read them all but I look forward to reading them all. I am a retired schoolteacher, and I used to read a book to my children called Shoo-fly Pie Girl(or it might have been just Shoo-fly Girl) by Lois Lenski. I loved this book and so did my children. Once when traveling through Pennsylvania I got to eat some Shoo-fly Pie, and it was delicious. Thank you so much for stopping by for a cup of tea at Bunny Cottage. I enjoyed your visit very much!! 13. I ditto aprons or nightgowns and add bloomers perhaps? If the material is too thin for dresses, then perhaps slips?

  14. Made your monster cookies recipe again today! :) It got rave reviews at a friends home! How about pillow cases? Or an apron is a good idea too! :D

    Many blessings!

  16. Cute fabric!! This might be overly easy but I made a lot of these when my kids were little - little totes for them to bring things on car rides, etc. I'd do a draw-string around the top. That fabric might be too cute for that - how about matching jammies for them and a favorite toy? I hope you post whatever it is you're going to make when you're finished!! Please tell me you had some Benadryl for that sting, you poor thing. I know that's not only painful but kind of scary hoping your windpipe doesn't close up! YAY for Sunbeam - I bet she loves being "active" again!!! Have a good day girl ~

  18. Thanks everybody for your ideas. I think I'll try making aprons and if I have enough fabric left over I'll try one of the other little projects.

  19. Thank you for your visit, today. The fabric is really cute,I wouldn't know what to make of it,an apron does sound good.I am sorry you got stung. An epi pen might be a good thing to have around...seeing as how stings can worsen as we age:(
I hope the hurt and swelling will ease up soon.

  20. Honestly, The first thought that crossed my mind was an apron. Second thought was an pioneer type dress. sundress type dress on top and a long sleeved dress under it. The longer dress in red, pink or green. I read a book about the Dungar's family of 18. They said to suck out the venom of your beesting. I tried it several times this summer and it works. My husband and I are allergic to bees and have epi-pens. So I always worry about it since we live so far away from a hospital. My husband says to use Benydryl. My other son was stung on the lip about 2 weeks ago when I was gone. When I returned and saw his swolled lip and face I said, "What Happened" He said, "I got stung and dad wouldn't suck it out!" It really works!

  23. I agree with everyone the fabric would definately make cute aprons or even quilts.

I cannot believe there was a wasp on your door handle. I never eventhought of that. Little buggy beasts!! Are you allergic?

  25. Try using Tea Tree essential oil on bee or wasp stings! It really helps to numb out the pain.
