School Picture

I have a fascination with old pictures. Especially if they include people that I know.

Last week we were at my husbands parents for a few hours. In the course of conversation something reminded my mother-in-law about a picture they have.

I was delighted to see it. It's a school picture from the 50's before the Somerset County Amish had their own schools. They generously allowed us to make a copy for ourselves. We felt like we discovered a treasure! Pictures of your parents when they were children is something very rare for anyone who was raised Amish.

My father-in-law is circled and three of his sisters pointed out.

What a GREAT treasure!!! I give up - 1850s or 1950s?? HA HA Totally joking!! Pictures sure have come a long way. I had some old pictures of my grandparents as kids, and when I made copies just up at Walgreens, they looked professional and even better than the originals. That is just such a neat picture - I am so glad you shared that! You took part in Flashback Photo Friday and you didn't even know it!! ☺

Wow! Thanks for stopping by my blog to visit and comment. I need about 3 hours or more to begin at your beginning and read all the way through. I am fascinated with the Amish traditions and culture right now. I've just completed a six-book series by Carrie Bender which was a woman's journal. She is still a part of an Amish community in PA. Nice to meet you!

That is a treasure. I have few photos of my parents in their childhood. They grew up in the 30's, though, when photos were taken much less than in the 50's. I'm glad you have these pictures to pass on to your children.

What a cool picture. Don't you love the clothes and the fact that it is black and white. I can see that it is totally a treasure!

I really enjoy your stories and I want to thank you for reminding me that not everyone has hundreds of photos of their parents as young children and of their grandparents. I guess not everyone's gramma loved photography. I was blessed with all my gramma's photos and negatives. They start in the 20's and she stopped taking photos in the '80's. She married in 1924. My mother was born in 1928 and I've got baby pictures of her. Anyway, thanks again for reminding me. Keep up the wonderful writing!

Love that picture! The little girl third from the left looks as if she is a pistol. I'll bet anything she's wearing a red dress!
