Colorblind?

I like pretty things. I admire houses that are decorated beautifully, but anyone that sees my house wouldn't have a clue that I like seeing every room color co-ordinated and decorated.

My walls are basically bare, except for a calendar in the kitchen, and two clocks that never seem to have the right time. The bathroom, I'll not even go into too many details there, suffice it to say I have tried to become blind to all the flaws it contains.

Most of the towels we have clash badly with the green marbled wall, but after fifteen years of use most of them are at the point that they need to be replaced. This would be the great time to get some nicer colors I told myself, but then I happened upon some good quality towels that couldn't be beat in price. I snagged them even though I didn't care for the colors, they would work just fine for the job they're supposed to do and the day when everything matches will simply have to wait.

LV came home from a day of working with a welder and sees the new towels for the first time. "What color is that towel," he asked me.

"An ugly tannish brownish something or the other, I'm not even sure that color has a name," was my reply.

He was immensely relieved. "I really thought something was wrong with my eyes and I might be going colorblind or something."

The towel continues to stay in the bathroom. It's beginning to grow on me just a little. It actually doesn't look too bad with the green wall, but it will always be referred to as the colorblind towel.

  1. I after 35 years of marriage we finally have matching towels in the bathroom. It helps that there are just 2 of us now using the towels instead of 5! I had to smile at the colorblind comment.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  2. I am wondering if it dyeing them would get you a happier colour without much cost.

  4. I don't think I've ever had towels that match the bathroom. We've moved too often to be able to afford that luxury. I use what I have and hope that someday I'll stay somewhere long enough to need new towels, get them and then stay longer to enjoy them in the bathroom they match! Happy New Year!

  5. I'm with Betsy! It took getting all of the kids out of the house, but we now have towels to match the wall paper.

I've always been fussy about having things match. When I was a kid my grandparents had generic Fiesta Ware and my place setting HAD to match, or I would pitch a four-year old fit. If I could snag the silver aluminum tumbler (am I dating myself?) to match my cutlery, I was in Heaven. Otherwise, I'd settle for the one that matched my dishes.

  6. HAHAHA!!! Moving created the same problem for me :-) I was wondering the other day if we had any towels left from our wedding presents (we've been married almost 40 years) and the answer is "no" but the last of the hand towels that matched might still be in the workshop where they were relegated after over 25 years of faithful service! When we bought our first house, I found a good deal on some that actually matched and after another new house and 27 years, most of those that survived 3 boys have been relegated to the swimming pool pile. It's just the two of us, now and I can be a bit fussier, but they still have to be on sale :-)

Oh, and Lady Anne cracked me up with the silver aluminum tumbler!! Mine was also the silver one and my brother's was the copper one!

  7. The "something wrong with my eyes" comment made me laugh. Maybe if your daughters gotten into sewing, she'd like to attach some colorful trims to the bottoms of your towels? :) I would think the great think about your marble walls would be that just about any color would go nicely with them. :)
