Chocolate Chip Cookies

Chocolate chip cookies are some of our favorites and over the years we have tried all manner of different recipes to make them. We tried the ones from back of the Blue Bonnet margarine box, which turned out great, the recipe on chocolate chip packages were always a success as well. We tried recipes that required using condensed milk, vanilla instant pudding, and even a cake mix. We enjoyed the ones made from the recipes from both our mothers as well as my grandmother and a handful of friends each which had their own special twist that was supposed to make them superb. We enjoyed every one of them but not until yesterday did we finally find one that we all agreed produced what will be considered our favorites.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

2 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
1 ¾ cup butter flavored crisco
4 eggs
1 Tbsp vanilla
1 tsp salt
2 tsp baking soda
4½ cup flour
2 cup chocolate chips

Mix together crisco and sugars. Add eggs and vanilla. Mix well. Add flour, soda, and salt. Mix really well and stir in chocolate chips. Using your hands roll into balls not quite the size of a golf ball. Place on cookie sheet and flatten slightly. Bake in a preheated  375º  oven on the middle rack for 10 minutes. Allow to cool for a minute before removing from cookie sheet.

Enjoy!

  2. Chocolate chip cookies are my all-time favorite cookie, handsdown, but I make them very rarely since my husband has to watch his sugar intake. However, today I find myself in the house alone with your tasty sounding recipe and all the ingredients. I'm taking this as a sign. Thank you!
p.s. I'll let you know how they turn out.

  4. They a ARE scrumptious! I surely made them already and ate all of the first panful warm without blinkin' an eye. O.O (I baked 1/4 of the recipe in my toaster oven on a small pan, but still, it was more than any human should consume in one sitting.) Thanks, again, for the recipe. I'll be spending the rest of the day exercising.

  5. @Hayley - try making them with butter, or with half butter and half lard. The texture may be different, but they'll still be yummy.

(Chocolate chip cookies are also my favorite!)

  7. OK, I'll take your word for it. Scott's literally at the grocery store right now so I just called him and asked him to pick up some butter flavored Crisco and chocolate chips. I had pizza for breakfast, so I think I need cookies for dessert. :)

  8. It was way back in the 50's when I first heard about what mom called Toll House Cookies. I believe this was the original chocolate chip cookie. I think I still have the recipe in my file. I have not found another recipe that compares. I would like to yours.

  9. This reminds me so much of my mom's chocolate chip cookie recipe. She always said the butter flavored crisco was key. And I agree, these are really good! I might have to make cookies tomorrow :)

  12. OH, yummm! We use the Mrs. Fields' recipe, which has a lot more vanilla. I sometimes use part whole wheat flour, which makes them a bit heathier. And I love the Special Dark chips!

  13. I can't wait to try this recipe. My cookies whether they are chocolate chip or oatmeal raisen always seem to be flat when they are cooked. These look so yummy.
