Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. It's  been said that one small positive thought in the morning can change your whole day. Do you think that's true? Do you find that an easy exercise most mornings? What's something positive you told yourself today? If you missed that boat, what's something positive you could tell yourself tomorrow?

I think positive thoughts have a lot to do with what kind of day you will have, and how much you will enjoy life!

I usually wake up with some kind of song in my head, and while singing the lyrics in my head (don't want to wake the children by actually singing) I roll over to check the time on the alarm clock. I spend the last few minutes before it's time to get up thinking about my day and having a little chat with my Heavenly father.

I have noticed the song I wake with seems to stick with me all day and will be sung, hummed, and whistled until the next day when I have a new one.

2. There will be karaoke at the next party you attend...are you in? Or will you be faking a sore throat?

I love singing, but not in front of people. I wouldn't fake a sore throat though.

3. January 29th is National Puzzle Day...what's something you've found puzzling recently?

How can things get utterly lost in a not so big house? A book Sunbeam had been reading mysteriously disappeared. We've hunted high and low for it to no avail.

In opposite world, how do game and puzzle pieces keep appearing in the oddest places when I know we haven't played with said games or puzzles in quite a while?

4.  Jigsaw, crossword, acrostic, logic, sudoku, word search...what's your favorite kind of puzzle, and when did you last work one?

I love, love, love jigsaw puzzles. I have always enjoyed word searches and fill-in puzzles as well. Sudoku is quite another story though. Gives me a headache trying to get all those numbers where they need to be.

5. Recently a writer by the name of Amy Glass ruffled feathers with a post she wrote saying she looks down on young women with husbands and kids and she's not sorry. Among other things, she says women will be equal with men when we stop saying house work and real work are equally important. You can read the whole piece by clicking here.

What say you? Do you think men and women are equal in the 21st century? Why or why not?

I think she wanted attention and traffic to her site.

In God's eyes men and women have equal worth, but their roles are different. I'm totally okay with that.

6. What's a product you've noticed in the grocery store that you'd like to try, but haven't yet?

Kumquats and coconuts.

7. The author, Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (aka Lewis Carroll) was born this week in 1832 (January 27th).  Which character from his celebrated novel, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, would you most like to meet, and why? Here's a link to a character list if you need help on this one.

Probably Alice. Her curiosity and how she enjoyed meeting new friends makes her relatable. It has been years since I read the book so I might not find her as fun if I were to read it again.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I've been bitten by the gardening fever. All the seed catalogs that keep appearing makes me long for a huge garden like I used to have.

  1. I hear ya!!! Those seed catalogs are tormenting me too right now. And the beautiful photos of the flowers, plants, trees...everything so green, beautiful and healthy!! Bring on the Springtime.

Love your answer to #1...how you wake up with song on your mind!!! That, to me, shows you're a very contented person. In a good way.

As for losing things and others showing up unexpectedly...been there.

  2. Thanks for dropping by. You should try coconut. Fresh coconut drink makes really good thirst quencher on a hot day.

  3. I feel the same as you do as far as men and women and Sudoku puzzles too!

  4. I, too, have been affected with 'garden fever'. I planted a few seeds (indoors) to help myself get over it :)

  5. We can't see our garden for the snow. We have a minimalist garden now with mostly perenials.

  6. I like your answer to #3. I'm puzzled by where the odd sock goes. Why when you put in a pair of socks in the washer only one comes out. Your answer to #5 is spot on as well. Thanks for dropping by my Blog and leaving a comment.

  7. I am so not a gardener, but I do enjoy the fruits of others' labor!!

  8. Our garden is completely covered by snow so I'm content to sit and knit and quilt during these snowy days of winter.
It bothers me a bit that the article said "real" work versus "housework". Has that person never done housework? It IS real work and I'm proud that it's my job. I'm right where God wants me to be.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  9. I too love jigsaws! I recently did a old fashioned puzzle with wooden pieces. It wasn't easy! But i eventually did it. My mom found it at the thrift store and are worth a lot on ebay since they're rare!
Kumquats are good but they make your mouth taste funny afterwards. Have a great day and rest of the week! :)

  10. I can lay something down right in front of my face... loose it.. & have it pop right back up in the exact same place. I blame "The Little's" (ever see that movie?) :)

  11. I have yet to like coconut. However, my tune may change if I'm ever stranded on a desert island littered with coconuts. lol

  12. I would be mortified to sing Karaoke!

I totally agree with you about #5, too.

  13. As I understand it, coconut juice is God's Gatorade. Isotonic, excellent to stave off dehydration. I agree about men & women's roles. World would run more smoothly if more wimmen did, IMHO. I live in N. Fla currently, so I gave in to gardening fever & have my seeds on order with Seedsaver's Exchange!

  14. I really wish I could garden. My sister and my eldest daughter could grow cactus in a swamp. I have killed seedlings between my daughter's home and mine.

I also enjoy jigsaw puzzles and crosswords, but since I have dyscalcula, Sudoku is beyond me.

  15. We so agree on so many things! I like puzzles but Sudoku is as annoying as that woman who is confused about housework! Your answer to that one it true on both counts!

I awake with a song from choir practice in my head and it changes from day to day but won't stick with me all day as there are many more where that one came from! I would do a duet on Karaoke if I had someone to sing with :-)

I lose and find things all the time; was told that the missing socks go to the "hozone" layer of the atmosphere! I'm still waiting for my car/house keys to show up as I obviously came home and got in the house by using them - been looking/waiting for almost 2 years, now :-( Evidently I have not looked everywhere! (My fear is that they somehow fell off the counter and into the garbage or recycling bin, never to be seen again!)

I can understand you having gardening fever as it appears you have had one snow storm after another this winter! We are just far enough north that we've missed all but two storms - so the fever has not hit, yet, but will, quite possibly after the next arctic blast which is sure to come. When the February sun streams into my back sliding doors, I start some of my seedlings :-)

  16. Thinking positive is the key to happiness! And I won't be singing out loud, alone, at a party or anywhere else.

    Cheers!

  17. I don't have a garden and never have, but I love looking at other's gardens. I love crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. Greetings from Montreal, Canada.
