Disconcerting Mistake

Hearing the mailman pull away from our mailbox is a sound I look forward to hearing every day. It's always fun seeing what came.

Yesterday was no different as I sorted through the stack of mail. A few letters and of-course a bill and then I saw the envelope we had been waiting to receive ever since Buddy arrived. The one bringing his birth certificate.

I opened it and then stared at it in consternation. They got his name wrong! They spelled both his first and his middle name correctly but instead of Kinsinger they have an entirely different last name no where near ours or my maiden name.

So now we get to have the fun of trying to figure out how to correct their stupid mistake and in the meantime I get to love and care for our son who doesn't even share our last name.

  2. Almost 23 years ago, when my son was born, they spelled his first name wrong on his birth certificate. Luckily, it only took a phone call to the county clerk's office to fix the mistake.
Hopefully, you won't have to go through too many hoops!
    He's so precious!

  3. You shouldn't have too much trouble changing the name, although with it being the last name you may have to show "proof of purchase" or something. We changed our middle daughter's name twice before we settled on one that suited. Third time was a charm!

  4. Oh my, that is disconcerting, but I think you'll have it remedied soon enough. And really, no matter what is on the piece of paper, he's still a Kinsinger - and a cute one at that. ;)

  5. That sounds like a major aggravation to correct. But your little one is so cute, he's more than worth the trouble to get his name right so you can officially claim him!

  8. Well, your son is right in style with those that have AKA's (also known as) It will be a fun story when it is all straightened out, and interesting to have a copy ( marked copy) in his baby book.

He is a very cute baby, as well as the older kids!

  9. I have an Amended Birth Certificate because my parents had no idea what to name me since I was not the little boy they expected!!! I went 18 months without an "official" name other than Baby Girl Miller!

  10. They said I was a "male" on my birth certificate. They probably saw the name Randi and just assumed I was a boy!! The funny thing is, nobody caught it until I was in my early twenties and I had to get a passport!! We all had a very good laugh!!

  11. Check with any papers that came with the document and see if there is a phone # to call. I remember when we got one in the mail, it said something to the effect: "Please check this document for any errors and report them to ... " I'm pretty sure you knew your last name and how to spell it!

  12. Too funny!

Did they get your name and your husband's name right? If they did, hopefully it should be an "obvious" fix to the court clerk!

My Grandfather's birth certificate listed him as "Baby Boy" and then had his birth date 3 days later than what his parents had always told him. He found out when he was 62 and applying for a passport! Fortunately, that was before all the big government stuff and the local county clerk signed off with a laugh (she'd known my grandpa all her life) and the US happily sent him a passport. We think they mistakenly put in the day the doctor visited after the home birth (they lived in the middle of nowhere and it was 1904)!

Your little one is so precious!

  14. They goofed when listing my maiden name on my son's birth certificate. We waited a few years to make the correction and it cost 10 times more than it would have in the first year. Procrastination was expensive!
