Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. Let's talk holiday decorating. On a scale of 1-10 where do you fall? (1=Scrooge and 10= Clark Griswold). What's your favorite corner-room-table-space to decorate? Is it done?

I probably qualify on that scale to come in somewhere around a 2. All I do is put up a tree. That's it as far as decorations go. We usually put it up on the day after Thanksgiving.

2. Is there a nativity scene in your decorating somewhere? Post a picture or, if it's special to you in some way, tell us why. Or do both-it's Christmas!

We don't have any type of nativity scene. I really don't care for them. (Duck and hide.)

3.  Do you live in a social neighborhood? If so are you glad? If not do you wish you did?

We live in a very neighborly neighborhood, and I love it! It's a rare day that we don't see or talk with any of them.

4.  As the saying goes, 'there's no time like the present'. How does that ring true in your life right now?

In my attempts to not procrastinate this is ringing especially true right now. Even though it means dusting more often, writing when I don't necessarily feel like it, and a lot of other things that are easy to push off.

5. Do you dread Mondays? Why or why not?

As much as I love the weekend, I'm always ready for Monday morning to arrive. I like getting back to the usual schedule of things, and get started on everything I have planned for the week.

6.  Poinsettia, Christmas Cactus, Amaryllis-which on the list is your favorite holiday plant? Are any of these on display in your home right now?

I have always loved Poinsettias. We used to have Christmas cactus. Those pretty blooms always made me happy. Right now I don't have any house plants.

7. Share a favorite quote from a Christmas movie.

"Aaah! Fra-GEE-leh! It must be Italian!" from The Christmas Story.
I don't even like that movie, but that quote always made me chuckle. We made a family pact to not watch it for a long time.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

Winter seems to be a long time in coming. Yesterday we finally got some freezing rain. It's not my favorite, but look how pretty.

  1. Freezing rain is never fun, but it does look pretty on the trees. We have yet to get any real wintery weather, and that's just fine with me.

  2. Your least favorite movie is one of my very favorites. Yes, freezing rain is so beautiful, yet so treacherous. Merry Christmas!

  3. I remember a photo you shared of your Christmas cactus in full bloom. Mine has yet to bloom, and I have often thought of yours in comparison. What happened to yours? Sounds like a story to be written.

  4. The picture of the ice on the tree with light behind it is lovely! I also enjoy the one liners from The Christmas Story! It's a funny movie but also a bit annoying. Jeremiah's extended family hosts the Christmas dinner and that movie is on TV every time we are there! I guess it will be one of those memories we look back on and laugh when we are old! HAHA

  5. A lovely photo! It looks magical with the light shining through.
A Christmas Story quickly became one of our favorites. It has been watched twice already.

  6. Isn't it funny how we all have our likes and dislikes about things. We sometimes put a tree up...sometimes not. This year is a no tree year since it's just Hubby and I. However the Nativity always takes center stage even when no other decorations are out. I made it the very first Christmas we were married and it holds many, many memories.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  7. The photo of your freezing rain is beautiful. Yes, so dangerous and can bring down those power lines...we get a lot if that here in NC instead of snow. Enjoy the season!

  8. Oh, I love the rain, and we surely need it here in California. I remember that saying in "The Christmas Story." That's such a classic movie.

  9. Frozen tree branches certainly look lovely in your photo. Hopefully you can stay home and enjoy the view without venturing out in the bad weather. Our grandson shares your dislike for The Christmas Story! It's a funny one in an unusual way. ♥

  11. I bought a Nativity scene the year I was a senior in high school. I had a part-time job at Montgomery Wards and the set was returned, so I got a 25% reduction for the return and 10% as an employee. We stopped putting it up for a few years because our cat thought that lovely little house was just for her, and she'd knock all the figures on the floor.
"Dog in the manger" doesn't hold a candle to "cat in the manger"!

Our tree goes up this weekend, and will stay up until Epiphany.

  13. Your freezing rain picture is great. We don't normally get freezing temperatures here in Gulf Coast Texas. However, the last few days temps have gotten into the 30s.

  14. Ice, while potentially dangerous, can make for some absolutely stunning photographs. I think the light in the background gives a really interesting coloring to the ice. :)

Poinsettias are such beautiful flowers. I love them, too.

    Have a blessed weekend!
