Another Find

From the age of eight or nine until I got married I kept a journal. I love going back and reading everything I wrote. Some of it makes me shake my head and wonder just exactly what was I thinking. I burned quite a few of them right before our wedding and really regret that now. What I thought would be embarrassing to ever have LV read really wasn't embarrassing at all.

Yesterday Sailor came downstairs with an old worn red notebook and asked if I know what it is. "It's my journal from when I was about your age." I told him.

He opened the cover and showed me what I had written inside.
And then asked for permission to read it.  I think that was the first time in that little journal's lifetime that anyone took my threat to heart. Maybe it was the Amen that really sealed it?

  2. Oh my, wouldn't those journals be a good reference for you when writing your books! Alas, I'm just glad you have a great memory and are sharing your story with us.

  3. I think it shows how well you're training your children!
I did the same thing before I got married. Except I didn't burn, I just shredded pages til they were beyond piecing back together. It's funny, the things that bother you when you're that age.

  6. I kept a journal during my teen years. One day I came home from school and my mom asked me about something that I had written only in my journal. It wasn't anything that I would've gotten in trouble for or anything like that; and I had never done anything that she would have been suspicious enough to feel the need to read it. But I never kept a journal again! Now, I've been married for 13 years and still don't journal. I guess that one incident just fixed it for good cause I have no desire to journal.

It's very sweet that he found it and asked. You are apparently doing a great job raising your kids!

  7. I kept a diary from age 14 until I married my first husband. He found out I kept a diary and demanded to read it, he nit picked over a bunch of stuff about previous boy friends and that was the end of my diaries. I wish I had kept them up, especially aften my boys were born and growing up. Have tried to start again, mainly for my granddaughters, but can't get back into the habit. I have one granddaughter I don't get to see and thus she will have no idea of who I am or the truth of what ended my contact with her parents.

  8. I've never kept a journal. I wish I had.
KQ, I've got a similar situation with one of my grandkids. Sad, isn't it?

Mary Ann...Sailor was a good boy to ask, rather than skip over the warning. You've done a good job!

  9. lol! how sweet of your son to ask. :o)

I have several journals too. But my problem is, I'd start writing in a journal and would keep up with it for a year or two and then get lazy. Start another one and repeat the process. But I don't take notes in church to help me keep my focus and I have several sermon journals that I have filled over the years.

  14. I have kept journal for years. At first I would only journal whenever I needed an outlet to vent. Later I burned those as they were depressing. I then started writing the good stuff as well as everything else. I now have a whole stack of journals. The reality of writing my story is getting more real as time goes on. Maybe next summer.

  17. Real cute.
I've kept journal on an unregularly basis since I was 12.
I only seldom take time to ream them, but when I do, every sentence opens a garden of memories.

  18. That was so sweet - and brave of you to let him read it! I never kept a journal because I was always afraid of anyone ever reading it... now I wonder. Silly, the things you worry about.

  21. LOVE, Love, love!!! I knew you were my kindred spirit... now about 450 entries in, I'm sure of it! I was a dedicated little journal author from about the same age! Even though you don't still have some of them, I believe that the act of writing out your thoughts is what's helped to keep those memories in tact til now.
    :)
