Looking For Inquisitive Minds

Inquisitive minds like to learn new things. They enjoy exploring and discovering and finding answers to things they have questions for............ It is something I still possess and find myself looking for answers to things I am curious about.

I'm in the mood to do something different today. Ever since I started blogging I have been getting emails from people who have found my blog and had some questions. I enjoyed reading all of them and try to answer every one but sometimes it takes a while until I have time.

So I'm giving all of you the opportunity now to ask me anything you want to, about the Amish, or anything else you feel like asking me, and tomorrow I will have a post to answer your questions.

  1. (disclaimer; i don't have anything against head coverings)
Why is it so important and why do all Amish wear head coverings? I don't mind them, just always wondering why they do.
I have hundreds of questions but that is the one i have always wanted to ask. lol

  2. Do the Amish ever listen to music, or play musical instruments?

  3. i find, what little i know of the amish way of life, very interesting, comforting, simple. am i wrong? why would you want to leave it and do many folks leave that way of life? do you still practice it at all? oh i could go on and on with questions!

  4. Why did you leave the Amish? Were you shunned? Hope these aren't stupid questions. Love your blog!

  5. It seems I have read every book about Amish and their families and neighbors and their way of life..and I am not sure they all tell it like it is so to speak!! but it is enjoyable...and for a time I always thought I wanted to visit an Amish way of life for a while...just to see!!!??? I don't think I would handle it well...and would get into trouble alot LOLOL...and one day soon I just make that "monster cookie" recipe LOLOL...God Bless...hugs from Ora in KY

  6. I'm so excited you stopped by my blog and followed, I look forward to reading all the answers to these questions. Do the kids in the Amish community know about all the stuff as far as technology goes, and have they seen it, and how do they feel about the way other kids dress. I have a million questions. Thanks for letting us ask some.

Now I am off to read your other posts.

  7. What a really cool idea. Your story is so unique.

    I'm so enjoying your blog!

  8. How do the Amish view the outside world in general? Do they see the people who do not live as Amish as sinners or just as "others"?

BTW, I just found your blog in the last few days and I have really been enjoying it.

  9. Well, this is something I've always wondered...do Amish women have home birthing? Do they have one particular lady as a midwife?

If a bad farm accident occured would they utilize an ambulance and ER?

Do the women gossip? Are their any meddlers?

If I think of others I'll be back...LOL!☺

  11. I always kind of wondered why they weren't supposed to attend professional sporting events? Wait, that's a statement not a question, but feel free to answer it!! :) Here's my question: What do you still retain from your life as being Amish, like what WON'T you change?

  12. P.S. - Your daughter looks so sweet looking into that log! I had three older brothers and I guarantee one of them would've walked up behind me and went BOO just to scare the heck out of me if I were doing that!

  13. At our lake house we we see the Amish boys playing in the water fully clothed. But the girls just stand on the shore and laught and clap. Our the women not allowed to go in the water?

  14. Do different churches, like Lancaster, Schwartzentruber, Troyer, Nebraska, etc. intermarry? Is it assumed the couple will be members of the husband's church from then on?

  15. I just love reading the Amish books, but it's been so interesting reading your blog and learning that some of the things I've read are not accurate. Thanks for shedding light on the Amish way of life as it really is.

  16. Ho! I can't wait to read your answers!

  17. I would be interested to know what books you would recommend to learn true facts about the Amish.

Thanks for your openness and willingness to help blogging friends gain insight into a different way of life.

    Hi there,
Do New Order Amish evangelise? If they believe in salvation by grace rather than works, what is the main reason for New Order amish to leave? Oh and what is the quintessential amish cookbook? Oh and last question I promise...do amish women wear canning aprons outside of the home?

  19. I can't wait until tomorrow. thanks for sharing.

  20. What do you think of the movie Silent Witness, realistic or not? Thanks, Vicki

  21. I have always heard Amish don't want their faces shown in photos, but I noticed you post photos of faces. So is this no longer true?

  22. Oh girl! You are going to be busy answering a lot of questions.

I'm wondering if you or the Amish would have any questions for us? I suppose we are called the English? On our ways of life.

I also seen a documentary a few years back about the Amish in Ohio. They said that when the Amish turn 18 or 16 they go to the dentist and have all of their teeth pulled. Is that true and I just didn't understand that. I have had nightmares about my teeth falling out. I do remember a post about your husband's tooth.

And lastly but I'm sure I could ask more. Do any of the Amish go on to college to become doctors? Do you have any good remedies for allergies and sinus problems? That one is for me! lol

  23. Good idea...It's about the end of my day so I will put off any queries for another time. Just wantede you to know I'm trying to keep up with where you are so I cn pop-in sometimes

    Hope you don't mind

  24. I think that a lot of us who are "English" are a bit envious of what we know of the Amish, who seem to us to have managed to preserve a lot of things that many of us have lost - things like a quiet, peaceful life and large family togetherness.

I know that the Amish have many of the same problems that anyone else may have but it seems to me that there is a real community for them to be a part of that many of us lack. I, too would be interested to learn what the reasons were that you and your husband chose to leave the Amish way of life. I'm sure that it was not an easy decision and was one that took a lot of soul searching for both of you.

I do enjoy your blog very much and love to read your reminicences of your childhood. I am praying for your daughter to heal quickly and well.

  25. I am fairly new to your blog and and loving reading your stories!

I am wondering what religion you practice now and how your family (especially your parents) responded to you making a different choice?

Also could you at sometime elaborate a bit on the main reasons you decided to make a different choice?

Thank you so much, and thank you for the wonderful writing that we all get to enjoy!

  26. Would you ever come to the PNW to visit? I would love to host your family here at my farm, and then we could have nice easy conversations about your journey with God, while sitting under the apple trees.

We could drive up to Mt. Rainier for the day, it's only an hour away, and the kids could explore so many things. And we could muse on the freedom we have in Christ Jesus.

    Just wondering?

  27. We have The Amish here in my town. Some take piano lessons & drive cars. I have seen the women at our church and seen them crying during our music ,singing and preaching. Very humble and gentle seeming .
The women still wear dresses and caps .The community go to the meals they cook and sell to help build a school & church . They run a grocery store and build Storage buildings to sell.

They aren't under the Old Order, are they ?

  28. It appears your children still wear more Amish style clothes, is that so? Also, are there any photos of you on your blog?

Thank you so much for taking time to comment. I love hearing your thoughts.
