Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. Are you watching the Olympics? Your favorite summer Olympic event? I read recently a list of the most iconic Olympic moments in history...what stands out in your mind as a great moment from some past summer Olympic games?

I'm checking in to see the medal count occasionally. I don't even know all the events that take place at a summer Olympics, so I probably shouldn't be picking a favorite. I have no idea what iconic moments happened in any past Olympic games.

I really liked the clip that has been circulating on Facebook of the U.S. divers saying that their identity is in Christ and they can rest in that.

2. Have you ever been to Rio? How about the place that started it all-Greece? Have you ever been to any of the Olympic Games in person? Is that something you'd like to do? Have you ever met an Olympian in person?

I have never been to Rio, or Greece. I've never been to an Olympic game in person, and am fine if I never get to. I've also never met an Olympian in person.

3. The ball's in their court (tennis), cross the finish line (track and field), on target (archery), make a splash (diving), on a roll (gymnastics), out of one's depth (swimming)...which Olympic-related idiom best applies to your life right now? Explain.

The ball's in their court ..... for a number of different reasons. The one forefront in my mind is/was an important deal we were working on. Everything seemed to be on a roll, but somehow the ball became stuck in their court.

4. What have you earned a 'gold medal' in recently?

Hmmmm ...... the way I got our new school year off and running? The moments I stepped out of my comfort zone and did some things that I didn't really want to, but am glad I did because of all the memories that were created.

5. What is it (or who is it) that motivates you to eat right, exercise, and do what you can to be healthy?

Family .... I don't want my health to negatively impact the lives of those I love the most.

6. Are you young at heart or an old soul? Explain.

A mixture of both, perhaps?

I have a hard time of accepting the fact that I'm as old as the years claim I am. Which reminds me of a picture I've kept that Sunbeam drew for me several years ago. If you can't read it, it says ... I'm crazy about my Mom because she doesn't act her age.

On the flip side there are many ways I could be considered an old soul.

7. It's National S'mores Day (August 10th)...are you a fan? Will you celebrate with a s'more today?

I've only ever had S'mores once. I really liked them, but not enough that I'm tempted to build a campfire to make more.

No, I won't be celebrating with one today.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I'm nursing a painful sunburn right now. I thought I had applied sunscreen really well, but I missed my left shoulder. Ouch!

  1. I love what Sunbeam wrote. I agree that family is good motivation for staying as healthy as possible.

  2. Nothing is worse than a bad sunburn. I found Aloe to be the miracle cure. Have a great week.

  3. Haha! I'm not tempted to build a fire in this heat either! Sunburn is no fun at all. There have been a couple of clips on Facebook of testimonies which I have enjoyed, too. In addition to the one you mentioned, I love the young woman who said she was born to have babies!!

  4. Sorry about your sunburn. I have to be veery careful with the sunscreen because I burn easily too. I could have answered the same as you did on many of the questions. And my favorite today? Sunbean's caption on her picture. :-)
    Blessings,

  5. I keep Aloe in the frig and it helps a lot with sunburn. It's been raining buckets here, so no fire for s'mores even if I wanted one. They're way too sweet for me. Have a great day!

  6. "I really liked the clip that has been circulating on Facebook of the U.S. divers saying that their identity is in Christ and they can rest in that."

Oh, WOW!! I hadn't heard that. I have not been watching the olympics. I looked on YouTube just now and found a clip of the diver David Boudia talking about his faith.

  7. Though the marshmallow does not toast, S'mores can be made in the microwave: stack the graham cracker, the chocolate and top with the marshmallow. My microwave takes 10 seconds. We leave the top cracker off and eat the "opened face" S'more as is, but it can be topped with a cracker after microwaving.

  8. I enjoy watching the Olympics and gymnastics are my favorite event, but I must say that I have enjoyed the swimming as well.

  9. I'm sorry that you have a sunburn. Those are no fun at all. I've only ever had one really bad sunburn. Usually I do not burn. I'm grateful for that. I hope yours will heal soon.

    Sunbeam's note/picture to you is a precious treasure. :)

    Have a blessed day.

  10. Sunburns are the worst. Some people don't burn. Some of us do really badly. A little aloe helps a lot.

  11. Congrats on getting your school year off to a good start. That definitely deserves a gold medal.
I love your picture/note from Sunbeam, and I'm sure you do, too.

  12. Sorry to hear about your sunburn...Ouch! Water problems can be challenging. We are back to normal. The well company found two breaks in the line which they repaired. Have a great week!

  13. I encountered an Olympian...before she was an Olympian. My sister was friends with her cousin Ruth when I was quite young. I probably was about 13. I remember Cathy coming to our church. I say "encountered" because I don't really remember actually meeting her. She was just a blond girl named Cathy back then. I had no way of knowing she would end up being anything special.

  14. I so admire homeschooling moms so congrats on getting your year started so well. I can't imagine the time and dedication required. The most miserable I recall ever being was after spending a day on the water without sunscreen (it wasn't stressed so much back in the 60's) and resulting in painful blisters all over my back and shoulders. Hope yours heals quickly.

  15. So sorry you are hurting from the sun, pure aloe is the best for relief. Home Schooling seems very challenging, I applaud your efforts!
    Cheers!
