Lydia's Bonnet

A little while ago I was contacted by Lillian Stoltzfus. She had written a little children's book and wondered if I would consider reviewing it.

Lydia's bonnet arrived, and Buddy was excited about having a new book to read. He clambered onto my lap and we proceeded to read.

I was impressed at the large pictures on every page, depicting the scene we were reading.

The story of Lydia's bonnet was cute and provided a great launching point for a discussion with Buddy after we were finished reading.

I was impressed at the authenticity displayed throughout the book. The clothes, the girls' hair. and even the stance of the boy on the left of this photo is all very authentic to the Amish in Lancaster.

I decided to go ahead and start the year off by giving you a chance to win a copy of Lydia's Bonnet.

To enter all you have to do is leave a comment telling me your ...... ah let's see ....... how about since Lydia was feeling lazy and not wanting to help her mother with the dishes, why don't you go ahead and leave a comment telling me about your least favorite household chore.

For a second entry, post a link to this giveaway on either your blog or Facebook and then come back and leave another comment telling me you did.

I will choose a winner, using the Random Generator on January 8th.
Disclaimer: I am not being compensated in any way for doing this giveaway. I simply feel like giving someone else a chance to have this book.

Giveaway is now closed.

  1. Thanks for the chance to win! My least favorite household chore is vacuuming. I hate lugging my heavy vacuum up and down the stairs, and having to pull out all the attachments!

  3. It's funny...for some reason I can't get started mopping. I will delay, delay, delay. Then, once I've started, I'm fine! I wonder what the big deal was :)

Enjoy your blog, thank you for this opportunity. Lancaster county is my favorite place to go.

  10. Good morning! My least favorite chore growing up was the dreaded drying dishes. I SO disliked doing it! Mom would wash, I ALWAYS had to dry. Now, as an adult, my least favorite is mopping the kitchen floor.

  11. I dislike standing on bits on the floor, so I really like to sweep the floor, but for some reason I just have a real problem picking up the dust pan and brush and putting the bits in the bin. So I end up with little piles of bits in every room until I realise how ridiculous it is and finish the job. Silly isn't it?

  12. I dislike mopping floors.

But what I really wanted to say is that I am a lot like Lydia in that I grew up in a family with four brothers and no sisters!

  25. I hate all housework and I am lazy. I rather sit and read but the house has to get clean sometimes. I would say dusting is the worst because you have to move things, dust and replace things.

  29. Happy New Year! My "most" least favorite chore is cleaning the toilet! But, then I am VERY thankful that we live in this age and have an indoor toilet - can't imagine way back when, having to go outside when it is below freezing to do your duty!
We just heard of some celebrity who has 16 bathrooms! - We wondered who they got to clean all of them! Always enjoy all of your posts. HUGS... and stitches

  30. Nowadays I honestly don't have a least favorite chore, but when I was a kid HATED making the bed. My mum insisted we strip it down to the mattress, switch the sheets, top to bottom and end to end - every blessed day. And turn, flip, or spin the mattress every Saturday. I was astounded when I went away to school and discovered the rest of the world didn't live this way! Now, I just "zip it up", and call it made. That rumble you hear is my mother, spinning in her grave.
