Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. On Thursday we pause to remember a dark day in history-9/11. Will you mark it in some special way?

We won't be doing anything special on Thursday, except maybe say a few extra prayers.

2. Do you ever/still...listen to an actual radio? Watch a videotape (VCR)? Look up a number in a phonebook? Refer to a paper map while traveling? Set an alarm on an alarm clock as opposed to your phone?

We don't have a radio in the house, but will occasionally listen when we travel. We don't have a VCR or any videotapes. We just got a new phone book in the mail yesterday, but since Buddy grew out of his phase of ripping pages out of phone books I really don't know what I will be doing with it, since we never use it to look up phone numbers. We do still use a paper map when traveling, though a GPS also lends its advice occasionally. We don't trust the thing 100% though and won't go traveling without a road atlas. I don't have a cell phone and still use an alarm clock. It let me down a few days ago, but with a set of new batteries it's back to its regular obnoxiously loud morning wake up songs.

3.  Is it ever a good idea to discuss religion or politics with people you don't know?

Most of the time, no. I try to steer away from those two topics even when around people I do know.

4. What's a dish you haven't eaten all summer, but come September find yourself craving? Have you made it yet this month?

Can't think of any. I do still want to make a Baked Alaska and a Croquembouche sometime this year, more so for the challenge of completing it successfully, than actually eating it.

5. What's something you know nothing about?

Flying an airplane. Performing surgery. Training a lion. A whole host of other things that I really don't mind that I know nothing about.

6. September is Classical Music Month. Do you like classical music? If so, what's your favorite piece?

Yawn, no thanks. I prefer to not to be hopelessly bored or sleepy when listening to music.

7. What's the oldest thing you own?

Probably a clock that used to belong to LV's grandparents. It's big, and when moving into our house we tried to find a spot for it, but where ever we tried it simply didn't work. The poor thing has been tucked into the attic until we find a place for it that actually works.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

It's foggy and cold outside. The perfect day to begin our fall and winter sewing and crafts. Up first make a pretty apron.

    1. It's so much fun thinking and planning winter crafts! This winter I'll hopefully finish up some projects I started in past winters.

  3. It's overcast here...makes me crave a big pot of chili! Sure wish I were the crafting type...I just don't have the patience.

    1. I pick and choose when it comes to crafty type things. I don't enjoy things that require a lot of hand stitching.

  4. It is cold and damp in the Baltimore area, too. A perfect day to make a batch of bread. My two favorite aromas - fresh bread and fresh laundry.

Both The Squire and I own cell phones, but they are mostly for "I'm at the grocery store; do we need anything but eggs and milk?" Neither of us are the type to just babble on the phone all the time.

I really enjoy classical music. I have always joked that I wanted Tchaikovsky's "Overture of 1812" for my funeral, but there was some discussion about the cannons. Seriously, I enjoy almost all classical music, and I like country-western, too. John Denver was a favorite of mine.

    1. Rosebud likes classical music, so we do listen to it occasionally. Who knows maybe someday I'll learn to like it. After all I like a lot of things that I didn't use to.

    1. Trade? No thanks. I don't like anything over 75 degrees.

  6. It's getting cooler here, too. It's only supposed to be in the low 70s today. Hello, fall weather; good riddance humidity.

It actually hurt my heart that you find classical music so boring. I was trained in classical music on the flute and piano. I absolutely love it, and I find it anything BUT boring. Baroque is my favorite period, with J.S. Bach being my favorite composer. He signed his works "Soli deo gloria," which means "To the glory of God alone."

    1. I deleted my above post because I got so "excited" that I overlooked proofing it before I posted. Below is what I meant to say:

Above you had asked, "Is it ever a good idea to discuss religion or politics with people you don't know?" I believe it is so important to "show" our faith. It's GREAT to be able to talk with anyone/everyone about it, but ... it's so much better to show it by our actions. We should be different from the world, but not by an "extravagance" or "ego-centrism." We shouldn't ever strive to bring attention to our "selves," but ... well, ALL glory goes to the God (& His son) who grant us a gift to wake up every morning by taking on this "gift of life" with the 1st morning breathe we draw. That in itself is a GREAT gift ... and the rest of the day is actually "gravy." To talk with others (inc. total "strangers") is a GREAT way to encourage others in KNOWING that there is such a great, loving, compassionate, loving, God-father (& His most loving son) who have given us such courage, faith, love hope, etc. to able to face these most troubling days that we are now in. IMHO
