Hurried Plans

We were almost ready to sit down and eat when there was a knock on the door. LV went to see who it was and I tried to listen as I spooned food on the childrens plates and fed Sunbeam. I couldn't understand more than a few words and a little later when LV came back to join us I wanted to know who it had been.

"It was our neighbor," LV said. "He was wondering if we would consider selling our farm to him since our land joined his and he was hoping to expand his operation. He made an offer that would be really hard to turn down but I told him we would talk it over and think about it first."

That evening after the children were tucked in bed we did talk it over. We both thought his generous offer was too good not to accept and since we didn't want to remain in this community any way we decided to accept.

We were now faced with having to search seriously for another community. We had heard of a little community in southern Illinois and though we didn't know any of the people there personally we managed to find out who the bishop was and after talking to him we made plans to go visit his church to see if we want to move there.

The option for local drivers who were willing to make overnight trips were very few but we finally found someone who had only recently decided he would like to be a taxi driver for the Amish and we hired him to take us.
To be continued

  1. Isn't it amazing how God works?! You didn't want to stay there and then you get an offer on your property! Can't wait to read the rest of your story.

  2. God works in mysterious ways. It is interesting that this came about just at the same time as the Lord was preparing your hearts for a move. We live in Illinois and have visited the Amish community in the southern part of our state. We have not been there in years as travel is no longer possible for me. I always thought their lives were hard ones, but to see and hear their children play was always a joy. It is funny how God works. We wait upon Him and it seems at times things will never change but then all of a sudden He surprises us with something coming about so quickly. Thank you for sharing your stories, they are a treasure and we are blessed that you are willing to allow us to take part in them.

  5. Oh my goodness, I'm dying with anticipation here! I have to know what happens next! Can't you just write night and day and get the whole story out? I guess this way is better though because at least I can get things done in between stories. If it were a book, I wouldn't be able to put it down until the very last word was read. This would be a detriment to my housework and laundry. LOL!

  8. Wow, more uprooting. It's hard to argue when God gives us a clear sign, isn't it? :)

  9. Sounds like a good offer came at the right time. It does seem a bit like a sign.
