Sounds

We have quite an assortment of sounds surrounding us. This morning when I focused on individual sounds I was amazed how many different things I listen to at the same time. No wonder I feel tired.

  1. This sheep is lonely and spends the majority of it's time bleating for it's departed friend. I feel very sorry for it that it still has to wear it's thick wool coat even during this extra warm summer.
  2. Living right next to a busy road lends lots of sounds, cars and pickups aren't too bad but the semi's with their noisy engine brakes, and all the motorcycles make a lot of noise.
  3. The sound of the wind in the majestic pine trees behind the house.
  4. The birds enjoy the trees and their sweet songs fill the air constantly.
  5. A very happy elderly neighbor whistles all.... day.... long. But only one note. And rests only long enough to take a breath before whistling again. I'm getting used to it now but there were days that I had to close the windows because I couldn't take it any longer.
  6. Mama beef cows and their calves calling to each other.
  7. Several mourning doves calling for rain.
  8. A family of very noisy Canada geese.
  9. The chatter and laughter of three happy children.
  10. The hum of the refrigerator and the washer and dryer.
  11. A lawn mower. We live in a very mow happy neighborhood and we hear someone's lawnmower everyday.
  12. Then of-course there are the occasional unusual sounds. Like that of a woman giving a horrified gasp when she is on her front porch right beside a busy highway trying to hang something on a hook that requires her to use a chair to stand on. And in her efforts she happens to step on her skirt.    I would like to apologize to the poor unsuspecting motorists who were passing at that unfortunate moment and assure you I will do everything in my power to keep that from happening again.

  1. You are TOO funny!! Those motorists didn't know what an exciting day was in store for them - hope you didn't cause any accidents. :D Whistling is one of the only noises that just gets under my skin. I don't know why, I know people whistle when they're happy, but that noise just gets to me for some reason. And I can't very well tell someone to stop being happy! ha ha

  3. We live on a busy road, too, so I can assure you that you'll soon learn to ignore the sounds you don't want to hear. (except maybe that whistlin') I don't notice the trucks anymore, anyway. Now, about that skirt...been there! As a matter of fact I wear mine to my ankles and climb stairs on a daily basis usually with my hands full. ;)
    Have a great weekend!

  4. Oh my! You just made my day! That was soo funny! :~P
Someone needs to sheer the sheep and get it a new friend! I could get used to all the other sounds but the sheep would drive me nuts!
Give the elderly person who whistles a gift of chewing gum or crackers! One just can't whistle with a mouthful of crackers!

  5. How true that the sounds we hear are so much more than we ever thought. I love whistling only because my deceased grandfather whistled all the time and he was the only one who ever paid attention to us when we were kids. Right now I hear 3 happy children and a worn out air conditioner! :)

  6. I'm glad you only gasped and didn't crash on the porch! That would have made much more noise.
It is interesting how we usually tune out all the usual sounds around us and only notice what is different.

  7. We live along a busy road too. I despise it, especially the noise. The motorcycles are the worst. Oh my, and number 13? I'm convinced that when you live along a busy road you lose a little of your modesty.

  8. #5 gave me a chuckle...one of my children has recently learned to whistle! He entertains us with his 'tunes' most of the day...I have grown to enjoy it now that I am used to it. :)
    Blessings,
    Julie

  9. I am giggling about the bit about hanging the laundry and the skirt. SO sorry! I rather like the photo of the sheep and am sorry it is lonely.
