Recently I received a package in the mail from her. Since I have a weakness for packages I laid aside what I was doing at the moment and opened it. Inside I found one of her latest books, "Amish Peace" After flipping through it a little I started reading bits and pieces and before I knew it I had read the whole book. I found it to be very interesting as each chapter was a short story of either memories Amish people had shared or interviews they had done. At the end of each chapter were a few questions to ask yourself that I found quite thought provoking.
As I laid the book aside I felt acutely reminded what all we sacrificed when we left our comfortable little world in an Amish community. Though we don't even consider returning I was glad to find a book that shows some of the qualities I admire and miss from the Amish culture.
Suzanne did not ask me to review her book, but I wanted to share with all of you that I had finally found a book about the Amish that I actually enjoyed reading.

I actually got this book for my mom for Christmas and she's really enjoyed it so far. We used to joke about wanting to join the Amish because we were fed up with the hectic business of "fancy" life, but of course we never actually seriously considered it, so I thought the book was the perfect compromise. :) I haven't read it yet so it's good to know you enjoyed it!

Like so many others, I'm going to have to check our library to see if they have it. Sounds like a very interesting book.
Oh! I have heard of this book! I think my mother saw it somewhere and told me about it. Now I'll have to see if I can find it and read it. I used to think I had to join the Amish or some other similar group to have that peace, or that lifestyle, however one wants to call it. Then I realized that I don't have to. I just have to work towards it in my own home.
I remember thinking once, "I wish I had a big ol' garden and was free to can and put it all away in a pantry." Then I realized that that is what I do! Not to the extent of many Amish women, but I do have a decent sized garden. I do can (and freeze and dry).
One thing I do wish I had that it seems many Amish women have is the sisterly support system. I have one, but it's broken up and hindered at times because many of the women have careers or jobs outside the home and cannot be of assistance when I need them all the time.
That looks a most interesting book. I'd love to read it.
I think differently of Amish fiction after I read your post a while back. But I would like to find this book; thanks for the recommendation.

I just pick up a new book this week as a gift for my sister. I can't remember the title at this moment, but it's an Amish (fiction) book. Our favorite author is Beverly Lewis, but this was a new author I hadn't heard of or read before.

This book absolutely changed my life!!! Suzanne Woods Fisher is a God send!!! While I am not amish, I grew up with them being my neighbors and friends. This book is beautifully and accurately written! Tis Vunderful Goot as we would say here in PA!

I remember when you had a tiny handful of followers. Now, look! Everyone is flocking to your blog because of the way you present your stories of being Amish -- your blog is like a book being written and shared vignette by vignette!
I truly enjoyed that book and she also has a new fictional book called The Choice that is well written also.
