Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. This coming weekend is Palm Sunday, which marks the beginning of Holy Week. Do you celebrate Easter in your home? What was your favorite Easter tradition as a child?

We don't do much of anything for Easter in our home. I'm doubtful that we'll be doing anything this year, not even candy.

Easter used to be the most dreaded of holidays when I was a child and growing up. Starting on Good Friday and lasting until sundown on Easter Monday. It was a long drawn out solemn occasion. Friday was a day of fasting. Saturday was filled with preparations for Sunday and Monday which were two more days of not working and sitting around reading things like The Rules of a Godly Life and other spiritual material. It was always such a relief when life could go back to normal.

2. George Weinberg is quoted as saying, 'Hope never abandons you, you abandon it.' Agree or disagree? Share your own thoughts on the word hope.

I agree. Not sure I can put my thoughts on hope into words. I am really thankful for the living hope we have as a born again child of God.

3. Weigh in with a yay or nay on the traditional Easter candies. A solid milk chocolate bunny? Cadbury Creme Eggs? Peeps? Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs? Jellybeans? Coconut Cream Eggs? Of the candies listed, which one would you most like to find in your Easter basket?

Solid milk chocolate bunny: Yay
Cadbury Crème Eggs: Yay
Peeps: Yay
Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs: Nay
Jellybeans: Nay
Coconut Cream Eggs: Nay

The one I'd most like to have is probably the chocolate bunny.

4. When did you last feel 'like a kid in a candy store'?

I can't remember the last time I had that feeling. It's been a long, long time. Probably back when we were Amish and I got to visit one of the big Amish stores in Indiana.

5. What's something you know you do differently than most people? Does that bother you? Does it bother other people?

I stay at home a lot. It doesn't bother me at all that I do. I don't really care if it bothers other people or not.

6. Palm Springs CA, Palm Beach FL, or the PALMetto State...of the three mentioned, which sunny spot would you most like to visit right now? Which have you visited at one time or another?

I'd like to go to Palm Springs CA.

I have visited the Palmetto State several times already.

7. If you could change the length of a day would you lengthen it or shorten it? Tell us why.

If it were up to me a days would be much, much longer. There are never enough hours in a day for me. Life seems to be flying by at an alarming rate of speed, so yes, I would definitely lengthen days if I could.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

I'm going to see a doctor tomorrow to schedule a surgery. Not looking forward to it at all.

  1. You and I agree on #7. And I should have answered #5 like you! I like to think that I'm quite comfortable with my own company. I do believe that if I've got plenty of food in the fridge and pantry and something quilty to work on, I could stay home for weeks - maybe longer. Yes, I believe I could easily be a hermit. ;-)

  2. We've been out a lot in recent weeks. I was supposed to go to a dinner on Monday, but told hubs he had to go without me. I was worn out from all the travel, eating out, etc. I have something Thurs, Friday, and Saturday night this week, and am glad I took a break on Monday. I put on my pjs at 7 PM and ate popcorn for dinner : )

  5. Best of luck on your surgery, whatever it is for. Praying for peace for you. We live in a large Amish community here in Missouri and I love to go to our Amish bulk foods store. And the greenhouses are AMAZING! It's about that time to head there for my flowers!!

  7. The week between Palm Sunday and Good Friday is always a very serious time, but Easter is even more joyous a celebration than Christmas. My favorite candy is a really *good* butterscotch (preferably English) with malted milk balls coming in a close second. I really like the "Robin Egg" candy you can only get at Easter time. I honestly don't care for chocolate in large amounts. A chocolate bunny would probably go out for the squirrels after six weeks.

I do hope your surgery goes well. Often, the anticipation can be worse than the actual event. I will add you to our prayer list.

  8. I'm a home body, too, and I'm perfectly fine with that. Hope your surgery goes well and you heal soon!

  9. I like the Reese's egg! Peep's aren't my favorite but they are good for decorating.
That's cute about your 3 year old loving baseball. Good to start them early. When my nephew was around that age he would say "the good team is the Giants & the bad team is the Dodgers!"

  10. My favorite candy is Reese's Peanut Butter cups so I would choose the peanut butter egg. I also like to stay home although I have done way too much traveling this year. Having all three children living far away contributes to my travel. I love Easter. It is far more a joyous occasion that Christmas for me. Jesus redeemed me so that I can look forward to eternal life with Him. Hallelujah! If I had to celebrate how you did as a child though, I don't know if I would feel the same. To me, although Good Friday is solemn, Easter is a wonderful rebirth.
I'll be praying for you tomorrow as you go to the doctor. Surgery talk is never a good feeling.
    Blessings always,
    Betsy

  11. I prayed that your appointment goes well tomorrow and for your upcoming surgery.
I love being home too. Some others don't understand it, but we are all different, right?

  13. There seem to be several of us Hodgepodgers who like solitude and don't care whether it bothers anyone else or not. Trusting your upcoming surgery goes well. I look forward to a good report soon.

  14. Wow!mthat is terrible about how you were forced to spend the holiday growing up...making it dreaded. Easter should be a joyous time of celebration! He has risen, after all!

I'm not sure I celebrate it in the most ideal way either, however.

  15. Your answer to #1 is so very interesting. I can't even imagine celebrating Easter in that way.

I don't mind being at home at all, in fact, I enjoy it but I do like to go and do too. I try to have a good blend of both.

Wishing you a quick recovery following your surgery.

  16. I've been to Palm Springs several times, and definitely recommend it. There are some interesting shops downtown, and a historic house that I can't remember the name of at the moment.
    Good luck with your surgery!
