Bits and Pieces

Chomp, chomp. Those little teeth are trying to get through.

~~~~~
Rosebud is at the age right now where if we were still Amish she would be getting an entire new wardrobe and changing from little girl dresses that button down the back to the three piece suits. A dress, cape, and apron and pins instead of buttons.
I feel just a teeny bit sad that this birthday passes with out the same feeling I had of stepping into a more grown up world. There are other ways to celebrate but it's still not the same.
~~~~~

Thanks to the big wind energy project nearby the traffic has increased dramatically going from busy to super busy. I'll be glad once they're done and things can go back to normal.

Today's projects include trying some pioneer recipes and making a pair of beaded moccasins. Should be a fun challenge.

  1. You're little guy is so cute! And I know what you mean about the traffic. They are doing a lot of gas drilling in Arkansas and our quiet little town you can hear the big trucks passing all night long. It is actually kind of sad.
    until next time... nel

  3. I was having similar feelings once, a long while ago - not being able to "reproduce" my happy childhood for my own kids. I don't remember exactly what she said, but my (then, very young) daughter freed me up by telling me, "it's ok, Mom, this is our childhood, and it's just as good!"

    Perhaps a hope chest and something to go in it would produce a similar feeling of growing up.

  5. Your baby is such a cutie pie!!

    I cannot believe you are making a pair of beaded moccasins - That is just amazing. I wouldn't even know how to begin a project like that. You do some interesting things.

  6. Don't be sad! You probably wouldn't be making beaded moccasins if you were still Amish. Waiting patiently (or not!) to see pictures of moccasins.

  7. I remember one of the things my mother did for me when I was entering young womanhood.....When I turned 13, I recieved a letter from her telling me of how much love she had for me and the hopes she had for my future. I believe that is also the year I recieved the handmade candy corsage to wear at school. It was done with a large ribbon bow (like would be on a birthday present) and long strands of ribbon. There were hard candies glued all over it. I was so proud to wear it to school as it told everyone that it was my birthday, but more proud because I knew my mama had taken the time to make it for me.

  8. Whoa! Slow that growin' baby boy down!!! Darling, though getting too big too fast!

    You are so clever.. I'm sure you can come up with an idea to mark Rosebud's waning little girl years and entrance into pre-teen years.

    I remember when I was 12, I was allowed to wear nylons and high heels for the first time. THAT was a big deal back in 1964.

    Hoping for some pictures of those moccasins and a report that the volume of traffic reduces very soon!

  9. Such a cutie pie!! I'd love to see some pics and hear about the "Pioneer Recipes" you're going to try, because in my head I'm picturing wild rabbit and buffalo stew. LOL Have fun! ♥

  10. Last year, when my son was studying South Carolina history, he begged to make the hardtack recipe in the textbook. We did, and believe me, we sympathized with what colonial-era soldiers and sailors had to eat.
