A few days ago this thing came visiting. After being escorted a nice distance away it made its way back surprisingly fast and totally unsettled everyone involved.
Don't think the picture does this thing justice in just how icky it is.
Have you ever seen one like it, and do you know what it is? Would it turn into some type of exquisitely beautiful moth or butterfly? Or would it get even uglier?

I'm not sure, but it may be a tobacco or tomato horn worn that transforms into a sphinx or hawk moth.
ReplyDeleteI would also say a Hawk moth. I remember my children keeping a similar one, first feeding it in a little box, watching it while it 'slept' for several weeks, then the joy of a beautiful Hawk moth later. Perhaps look it up on the web to see exactly what it is and what it eats.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting color! You caught my attention for a search of this. Very hard to find on the internet but I found one like yours! (looks like I concur that it is a tomato hornworm).
