Occasionally I like to check how people find my blog. Most google searches are for my blog name the second most popular way is when people search for Amish movies.
There are a host of others as well, a few more in the top ten are: why do Amish burp to show appreciation for their food, which then thankfully leads them to a post that dispells that myth. A lot of people stumble across my blog when they are curious whether or not the Amish listen to music.
There are always some slightly unusual phrases that make me chuckle and wonder what my blog has to do with that. But yesterday I found the most disturbing of all.... Home address for a joyful chaos blog writer. Thankfully there was no address anywhere on my blog for them to find. I have no idea what the intentions were behind that search but it did give me a creepy unpleasant feeling.

That would've scared me, too. I found your blog through The Amish Cook web site. A reader posted the link to it, and I've been hooked ever since. My favorite part of your blog is how you and LV together came to saving faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.
ReplyDeleteWOW Scary stuff and how invasive I cant remember how I found you but I check back every day from Tasmania dont normally comment though not sure addiction is the right word but has to come close, I just love everything and cant wait for your books.
ReplyDeleteCreepy is right! I'd like to think anyone wanting your address is wanting to send you a card, or a gift.
ReplyDeleteNow I've got to see what comes up when I search that under my own name.
Eek..that would be creepy! I found your blog through Ember's (Kindred of the quiet way) blog..I found hers doing research on Quakerism!
ReplyDeleteI found you through "About Amish"/Saloma Furlong's blog.
ReplyDeleteI found your blog following a link from another blog - not a search. I've checked 'Search Keywords' and the top search that reaches me is "armor of God", or a variation. It's good to know people are seeking Him.
ReplyDeleteOh, my. I'm going to agree with Sassy Granny and hope it was for a card or a gift. I just started my own blog a week or so ago and I will make sure never to put any identifying information on there. Thank you for sharing this.
ReplyDeleteI can understand why you would be a bit concerned, but I wouldn't worry about it... Sometimes things that seem creepy aren't. Admitedly the same can be said in the reverse, but since you don't post your address publicly I wouldn't worry about it.
ReplyDeletei don't like the sound of that too much, but sensible not to have an address linked to it.
ReplyDeleteLike Linda from KY, I also found your web site through the Amish Cook online web site. I look forward to reading your blog every day, and thank you for the add to Facebook!
ReplyDeleteYou found me and then I hopped over to figure out who you were.
ReplyDeleteMy dear friend, Dana, had mentioned you on her blog one time. Come to find out, you and Dana are dear friends too. :)
ReplyDeleteI have never searched for your address but I have wondered where you live (like in regards to which state), especially when you posted that you already had snow! Maybe the person was just curious like me. Granted they wouldn't really need to know your exact address but perhaps that was all they were wondering.
ReplyDeleteI don't blame you for feeling creeped out by that I would have felt the same way. You are right about some of the searches. some of them don't make sense at all.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Joanne
That is very weird. I would never even think of asking or looking for your address. But I agree with the person above who said they were interested and curious with the area that you live in because you've already had snow (but again didn't dare ask). I hope you enjoyed the snow with the kids! :)
ReplyDeleteI found you through another blog!
ReplyDeleteYou were refereed by a friend to me.I had no thought to do a search to find any blogs about anything. Wonder what mine would turn up under ? Umm not that computer savvy to check.
ReplyDeleteThanks for making me aware of that,
Creepiness...I've stumbled on a blog that copied a few of my posts, and my entire playlist...in the exact order. I hyperventilated for days!
ReplyDeleteHopefully they just want to see what your home looks like. I would probably buy a huge dog though : )
I found ya through the comment section of another blog and simply loved your title. Of course at the time I didn't know you were at the time just over a couple hills and 'round the corner of the Missouri Ponderosa. Small world!!!
ReplyDeleteYep, there have been a couple times I've been 'freaked' out. This incident would of qualified as 'creepy'.
God bless and have a beautiful day sweetie!!! :o)
How do you even check how people find your blog?? I was so disappointed when I saw there was another "Imperfect Housewife" out there - I didn't know if I should say something to her or not because I didn't know whose came first. Not that I care, I just think it's funny.
ReplyDeleteWhoa! Goes to show how private you really need to be... I can't remember how I found you. It may have been my interest in the differences in worship among the different Amish Orders and Mennonites ... I think I found you first, then from your comment page, found: Saloma, Mennobrarian, ImPerfect Housewife and that was enough reading! I feel like we're all old friends, now!! :-) I think you can find it from your dashboard. I'm curious, now ... I remember having "searchers" from Turkey, India and Russia ... oh, yeah... sure! I think it's because of my last name: Pitcher between pottery and baseball, I'm quite popular!
ReplyDeleteI just checked and some time ago, someone searched for me using my name and who I work through as a substitute teacher ... that was weird! I wonder what they thought they would find? I hope they were satisfied!
ReplyDeleteCreepy for sure!
That's a little scary! Glad they didn't find any information. I found your blog through another Christian blog. I really enjoy reading about your former Amish life and especially your search for the Truth and finding Christ. That's the BEST part! God bless your family.
ReplyDeleteI have been following you for a few months. I usually end up following new blogs b/c of a comment that was left on another blog.. I like or don't like the comment and like to click and see what that person is all about...I have no idea which blog I found you off! It happens so often. As for someone Google-ing you for an address. I would assume more for a card/gift etc. You have stated you are expecting.. most likely someone wanting to send a small gift. Or they saw the recent post of snow and assumes you were in the blizzard that hit PA/MD/VA/NY/CT/MA etc.. and wanted to see how bad your area was... Blessing to you and yours! Love the Candy Turkeys!
ReplyDeleteI can't even remember how I found your blog but I think it was while I was searching for simple life or simple living blogs, or maybe even Amish.
ReplyDeleteI would be a bit creeped out too, but hopefully it was totally innocent.
I'm also curious how you go about searching how people find your blog, I would like to do this for my own blog.
Tiff
That would def. be creepy, and would make me wonder why they were looking for my address too! My Mom found you, and highly recommended your blog to me. It's always so refreshing to read your stories & learn things about the Amish that we are often misguided on.
ReplyDeleteI found your website because I was searching for new blogs to look at. One of your followers is a member of one of my favorite blogs "True Femininity". I found your blog and couldn't move away! I've been reading your post history for the last 4 hours
ReplyDeleteHow do u find out how people find your blog (search phrases)? I would be interested to find out about my blog.
