This happens to be one of the favorite things in my kitchen and I use it often. It works perfectly when ever I want to shred cheese or apples. Potatoes whir through the grater cone often to then be fried. Another cone slices things nicely and when ever we're in the mood for homemade potato chips I reach for it. The fine grater makes short work of carrots or anything else I decide to send through it.
I shudder at the thought of trying to make a coleslaw without it.
I started housekeeping without it, having only a handheld grater that I slaved over and hated every time I used it. It always took a long time, my arm got tired and I tried to avoid preparing food that required my using it.
When our first Christmas together came. LV gave me this King Kutter and I was thrilled and I have been using it regularly ever since. We have had quite a few Christmases by now and he always does a great job of choosing gifts but so far none has been used and loved as much as this one.
I agree! I love mine, too!
ReplyDeleteI can see why you like your King Kutter so well. Even in this day of electric everything it's really smart to have a tool like that so you're not dependent on electricity.
ReplyDeletep.s. I checked the price at amazon.com and ouch! They are not cheap.
My mom has had one of those since I was a kid-we loved using it for salads and I even used it for a class demonstration in jr. high. I hope she will hand it down to me and my kids later. So handy and no electronics to break. Love your blog-have enjoyed it throughly.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen one of those - it looks great. I have a hand-cranked cheese grater, but it's just for cheese. It couldn't handle carrots or potatoes.
ReplyDeleteMy preferred solution: My husband grates potatoes and cabbage on the old-style grater, so I don't have to worry about it.
Although, if I see one of these at a yard sale, I'm snapping it up.
never heard of it. Where can u get them?
ReplyDeleteCool tool to have.
ReplyDeleteThat looks great, I have grated my hands too many times so I no longer use one but if I could find one like that, I may just change my mind, thanks.

I have something similar but this looks easier to use. I also use a hand grater and end up slicing parts of my knuckles...
ReplyDeleteBy the way, for a Christmas present, I gave my husband a crock pot :-) He loves it and he lets me use it once in a while!
That sounds like a handy kitchen tool. We use a hand grater, and always grate our knuckles as well as the cheese/carrots/potatoes. :P Thanks for sharing... there is an idea for Mom for Christmas! ;) Shhh!

I have the same "blades" for my KitchenAide . It is the shredder grater package... and I would not live without it..arthritis in my hands prevent me from the hand work. so I know how nice these are!!
ReplyDeleteI went to Google to find out where to buy such a marvelous item, but all I found was farm implements like mowers.
ReplyDeleteDonna - go to Amazon, and search on King Cutter.
ReplyDeleteDonna try googling King Kutter Saladmaster. They can also be found on ebay if you search for King Kutter on their site.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a great gadget that I would use a lot also. Going to have to check it out.
ReplyDeleteMight have to do some Christmas gift hinting there.

I was thinking about this post this morning. I had to grate carrots for my mother's birthday cake this morning, and I wished I had a tool like yours!
ReplyDeleteLV must understand that a mother's kitchen tools are just as important as farm equipment. What an excellent choice, and my kitchen time envies you this handy tool. My favorite output would be scalloped potatoes, but cole slaw comes in a close second.
