Zeitlang is a word we used while we were Amish. I haven't found a single English word that is big enough to translate everything zeitlang encompasses.
It's homesickness
It's a yearning
It's an achingly beautiful longing
It's missing someone
It's an unfulfilled dream
It's zeitlang

What an interesting word!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all I wish to thank you for your very informative and nspiring alphabeth. I learnt a lot, today even about my own German language, as I was not familiar with Zeitlang. Nowadays it is written in two words . Es regnet eine Zeit lang. Meaning for some time.
ReplyDeleteBut then I found that Zeitlang still exists in the South of Germany, was used in love letters and is said to be the most beautiful Word Of the language.
So thank you once again and please stay healthy all of you.
