Picture my Week

Steven spent a lot of time playing with his favorite cat.  I've never tried training a cat, but his patience seems to be paying off and the cat is beginning to do what he wants her to do.

It's been raining, and raining, and then raining some more. Just when you think it's finally over and it's nice and sunny the skies open up and it rains again. We have water every where. Running through the basement, miniature ponds, or giant puddles in the yard, and running down the walks like a tiny river.

In the middle of all this rain a bull decided to wander about and visit some cows outside of his pasture. The second fence was keeping him out though so he wandered up and down the road seeming to take great joy fearlessly staring down traffic. The incessant honking bothered me a lot more than him. Even a big log truck with its big log truck horn did nothing to intimidate him.

I tried reaching the owner to tell him what's happening. There was no way I wanted to go out and confront him myself. I'm too much of a chicken for that, and the fact that he didn't belong to us helped keep my chicken-ess quite chicken-y.

A neighbor and a few other men finally came by and got him back where he belonged without too much trouble, and no excitement. The owner came by later that afternoon and fixed the trampled down fence. Hopefully that will keep the roaming Mr. where he belongs.

Rosie Mae baked some lovely braided bread. It was delicious!

We finally remembered to take stale bread along to the library to feed the huge flock of ducks (80+)that hangs out there. They're so pretty! And quite tame considering they're Mallards.

  1. Lovely Post! That bull is very brave. And I am not. I would be right beside you in your “chicken-ness”!!! Love that Stephen is training his cat and that bread is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! I wish I could have shared a bite of it with you all.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  2. Sorry. Auto correct decided it knew better how to spell Steven then I did. I apologize.

    1. Auto correct can be a headache sometimes. Sometimes annoying, sometimes frustrating, on occasion embarrassing, and every once in a while helpful. :)

  3. I had never really thought about training a cat before, but it looks as though Steven is having great success.

And loved the video of the bull! The vehicles passing by in the video didn't seem to bother him much at all. Glad that it all turned out well in the end.

Rosie Mae did an excellent job with that braided bread...picture perfect!

Have a wonderful remainder to your weekend, Mary Ann.

  4. That is a very big bull! You were wise to stay away.

  5. Rain, rain, rain! Our place is at the bottom of a hill, so we tend to be damp on a good day, but with the constant rain - well! We seem to have another spring in the middle of a flower bed, and the water just runs down the walk. Now we have a green, moldy, slimy mess in front of the door. Yetch!

    1. Ugh, that doesn't sound fun. Everything is squishy wet around here, but so far I haven't noticed green, moldy slime.

  6. Since we have gotten very little rain when it does I cheer. Wise to leave the bull alone.Cats are very wise creatures.

  7. I love that you care about the ducks, but did you know feeding them bread is not good for them. Perhaps you can take some greens, corn, peas, oatmeal or seeds to them instead of the bread.

    1. I had not realized that. Thanks for sharing. I often see other people feeding them bread, and I thought it would be fun, especially for Steven. Now that I know I'll use that bread to make French toast for us instead.

  8. How I wish you could send some rain out our way!! No doubt once it starts here it won't want to stop.

The loaves that Rosie Mae made look wonderful!!

    1. I hope you get rain soon. As soggy as it is here it's easy to forget that others are experiencing drought.

We really enjoyed the bread Rosie Mae made.

  9. I would have stayed away from that bull too!
    The bread is beautiful!

  10. I didn't know cats were trainable. I work in a farming community, and I've had to stop for cows, ducks, and tractors in the road. I wouldn't have confronted that bull either!

  11. I so enjoy your posts, Mary Ann! And you are quite the photographer, too!

Tell Steven to continue being patient and working with the kitty. Apparently there's a mother/daughter duo on this season of the TV show America's Got Talent who have successfully trained their cats to do many, many tricks! You might be able to catch a video of them on the Internet, which I imagine Steven would enjoy watching.

Might Rosie Mae be willing to share her recipe for that yummy looking bread?
