Picture my Week

There's something about the dark skies of a rain moving in, and older barns that stirs something deep inside. I can't quite explain it. I had to step outside and soak in the beauty of it all, and then we all stood on the porch afterwards and watched the rain come sweeping over the hill.

Buddy had a slow day when he woke up with a stuffy nose. Instead of charging outside like usual, he plopped on the floor with a piece of bubble wrap and spent several hours, painstakingly popping the bubbles one by one.

Rosebud enjoys trying a new recipe every week. This week that happened to be Mini Chocolate Silk Pie. They turned out to be quite the tasty little treat.

We finished up our third week of school. One of the books we read when looking for an allegory other than the ever popular Pilgrim's Progress was this one. A short, sweet, inspirational read that we enjoyed.

Our roses continue to bloom. This week provided a new orange hued rose that we all admired. Buddy especially thought it's a very special color after all the reds and pinks we had been getting.

I'm not a big fan of ice cream. Sitting down to enjoy a bowl full does not sound enjoyable to me. This week, however, we decided on a whim to get a box of Turkey Hill brand. Oh, my!! If all ice cream were this good I would start looking for reasons to eat it. Creamy, silky, pure delightfulness. The type of treat where you consider locking yourself in a closet somewhere to eat it so that you don't have to share.

It has been a summer of moths, this year, and we saw a lot that were new to us. Several days ago, it was this one that came by.

  1. That is a really neat barn picture! No wonder you admired the beauty of that. I was up near Lancaster at the Cackleberry Mall a week ago and left to go home just as a bad storm was rolling in. Unfortunately we didn't get that rain here in Delaware. The bubble wrap popping is so cute...ha...my kids used to do that and the noise drove me crazy (well almost). I am a fan of store ice cream too as vs. homemade. Andrea

  2. That photo of the barn with the stormy skies is stunning! You captured the light just beautifully. I spent most of my life in PA and have been a fan of Turkey Hill ice cream for a long time. I especially like their black raspberry flavor and tin roof sundae.

  6. That first photo is quite dramatic. My youngest daughter is a photographer, and she looks for contrasts like that one. Beautiful! Turkey Hill ice cream is a good brand. We like it here. The fact that it's reasonably priced doesn't hurt.

  7. Lovely pictures! I've always enjoyed watching rain come across a field or down the road. The dark skies with the light shining on the silos is quite striking.

  9. The glowing silos are beautiful. I love the sight of our barns.

Paul Gallico is a wonderful writer. The Mrs 'Arris goes to Paris books, the Poseidon Adventure, The Snow Goose and the beautiful Thomasina.

  11. There is nothing close to bubble wrap to entertain a child. (Or some adults I could mention.) I always try to keep a few pieces on hand for the great-granddaughter.

  12. OK, so NOW if I say "Knock! Knock!" and you say "Who's there?" I'll say "You!" and you'll say, "You, who? (You Hoo!) and then you will simply open the door to that ice cream closet... right?! LOL!!!!
Bubble wrap. The tendency to enjoy it is genetic, I'm sure. At least in my family! The barn photo is beautiful and so are those little pies!!! The rose is a pretty rich color that I've not seen before. The moth, I've seen; the bold pattern is intriguing. Might be a Tiger Moth.

  14. Love the barn picture, the rose, Buddy' entertainment AND Turkey Hill ice cream. As good as the red-rimmed lid flavors are, after tasting their "All Natural" ones with black-rimmed lids, I think those are even better! Ice cream lover that I am, I've even passed up other brands on sale and at events because every other type just isn't as satisfying now.
