On quite another note. This rain also reminds me of an old wives tale I grew up hearing and practicing. And while I no longer believe it I find it hard not to react in the same way with Buddy and try to have him protected from having any raindrops touch him.
We had been taught that a baby shouldn't have any rain drops touching it before its first birthday or they would have freckles and troubles later in life.
I don't think rain can possibly cause freckles and I don't think anyone has a totally trouble free life and rain drops certainly don't dictate the amount of trouble you will have.
I think the people of Noah's time would disagree that raindrops can cause a lot of trouble. HA HA We've had some teaser clouds but haven't seen rain in so very long - we crunch when we walk on our yard.
ReplyDeleteI'm completely heartbroken to hear about your friend that passed away. I don't even know them and it makes me want to cry. Please let us know if there's a trust fund set up for the children or the family. ♥
I'm so sorry about your friend. If there is anything we readers can do, let us know. I really enjoy reading your stories! Your children are delightful, please keep up the great work!
ReplyDeleteAfter an over month-long drought that produced long, deep cracks in the ground we are very thankful for recent rains - every sloshy step feels good!
ReplyDeleteIt seems superstitious tales are prevalent everywhere. A nephew's wife once said, "If you let a baby see its reflection in a mirror before they are a year old....their teeth won't come in." That nearly crossed my eyes when I heard her say it, lol.
I'm very sorry to hear of the family's loss. Praying for them and willing to help, also.

O.O I left only one comment above, but my phone (or net service) squawked & gurgled up several...sorry. Feel free to delete as I don't have that option from this phone. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your riend; especially with all those children being so young!
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh about the old wives' tale. I think if that was the case almost everyone would have freckles. Besides, what's wrong with freckles?
So sorry for the children and husband of your friend. :-(
ReplyDeleteWe always called freckles "angel kisses".♥
We have more rain this summer in Florida than I have ever seen. But we need what we are getting for our water level has been low for a number of years.
ReplyDeleteWe were taught that if a baby less than a year old sees it's reflections in the mirror, they will be proud and leave the Amish.
imPerfect Housewife... I haven't heard of a trust fund having been set up but will make sure to let you know if they do.
ReplyDeleteMagnolia Tea... I had to laugh at that old wives tale and almost crossed my eyes too. According to that Buddy should be quite toothless but he already has three teeth. :)
Toriz.... I don't know why freckles used to be feared so much. Sunbeam has quite a smattering of them and they don't bother me at all.
Tammy.... I love the idea of calling freckles; angel kisses.
Katie.... I had almost forgotten that old wives tale. We used to never allow babies to look in the mirror either. Too funny!
If freckles indicate future trouble, my childhood friend, Cindy, would likely have been widowed 8 times, have 14 children in prison, been foreclosed on more than once, and never ever have smiled a day in her life.
ReplyDeleteAnd count me in as well if a fund has been set up for the family of that woman.
ReplyDeleteMy heart breaks when I hear the loss of a young mother. Our church lost a young mother of four, toddler to teen in age.) We continue to feel her loss, but not as her husband and children. We lift them in prayer and hold them dear. May God grant both these families His peace that does pass understanding.
ReplyDeleteNever heard of that old wives tale!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about the young mother...my heart aches to hear of it!
Have a great weekend.
Tammy
I used to hear that if you had a tooth out and never put your tongue in the space, then a gold tooth would come in there! We knew it wasn't true but still wondered if it could maybe happen!
ReplyDeleteI had never heard that particular old wives' tale.
ReplyDeleteBut then I never have considered freckles anything but cute. :)
Now trouble, well, that is not so cute.
I've never heard that fable about freckles and troubles before, but it sounds very impractical! I wonder why freckles are so bad, anyway.
ReplyDeleteCount me in on the trust fund, too. I've been in a lot of rainstorms, but don't have freckles. My grandmother was a FREAK about my sister and me getting in the sun, though.
ReplyDeleteThankfully we are receiving some good rain that started this past Friday, and again today (Mon). I never know how these things are going to go with this crazy weather pattern. Richard
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear of this mother's death. Trusting that her children will be well taken care of. Such a hard thing for children to bear.
