Ah, The Pineapple Quilt. The one book that I used to read several times a year. I still enjoy sitting down and spending time with Nancy Martin as she spends a year working for a family in a neighboring church district. The lady she works for doesn't make things very easy at times but at the other end of the house lives Mommy (Grandma) and her Pineapple Quilt. Join Nancy as she grows in her faith and learns some very valuable life lessons.
Reading this book also introduced me to the yummy Montgomery Pie that I had to try after reading about Nancy's efforts in baking them. They are good and I will share that recipe in a future post.
This is a true to life story in an Old Order Mennonite setting. Or what we used to call the horse and buggy Mennonites. Very similar to the Amish.
If you would like to have a copy of this book leave a comment telling me your favorite kind of pie.
If you would like a second entry blog about this giveaway then come back and leave another comment telling me you did.
I will choose a winner on Monday February 7 using Random generator.
Giveaway is now closed and the winner announced. Thanks to everyone who entered!
Disclaimer: The only compensation I receive from doing this giveaway is the warm happy feeling I get from knowing someone else will get to read one of my all time favorite books.

My favorite pie is one that I have found not too many people have tasted before, but let me assure you...it is so yummy....Muscadine Pie.
ReplyDeleteFor a savory pir, I would have to go with a homemade chicken pot pie....yum yum!!
I also shared a post on my blog...
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for hosting this exciting give-a-way!
http://frugalhomeliving.blogspot.com/2011/02/faith-pie-pineapple-quilt.html

ReplyDeleteMy favourite pie is a Normandy Apple pie, made with homegrown apples cooked very lightly in butter!
I'd love to read this book...I'm collecting books about the Amish!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite pie is apple, even though I'm overseas and they are costly here!~~marilyn
The book sounds fascinating and I would very much like to read it. My favourite pie? It has to be apple and strawberry crumble.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite pie is my MIL's apple pie....YUM!!
ReplyDeleteCheers Lois
I would love to read that book. I guess my favorite, if I had to choose, would be a raspberry pie. Susan
ReplyDeleteHmmm I guess I'd have to go with black raspberry pie, although I don't have them very often...but I do love a good apple pie too! :)
ReplyDeleteMy favourite pie is apple pie with dried ground ginger. :)
ReplyDelete- Mrs. P. -

ReplyDeleteThe pie that I currently like the best is blueberry pie. Because that is what I have been baking with all the blueberries in our freezer that we picked this summer. If you ask me in a few months, it will probably change :)
I absolutely love your blog Mary Ann!
ReplyDeleteI like making and tasting all kinds of pies, but my all time favorite is pecan.
My favorite pie is cherry. Add me to the book list - the weather here is great for reading - cold and snowy!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is actually chess pie-espically the dark chess pie. My husband makes the best ones I have tried. Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteWe love pie. My favorite has gotta be strawberry.
ReplyDeletetimburk@verizon.net
Cherry pie! (warm, with some vanilla bean ice cream on the side)
ReplyDelete- Sally
Sounds like a great read. Looks like another week with some snow days, and I'm low on reading material!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite kind of pie is apple crumb.
My favorite pie is peach pie! Or key lime pie. :-)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite pie is Peach Pie, made from fresh peaches, with a sugared top crust. It's the best when it's still just a tad bit warm, so when you place whipped cream or vanilla ice cream over the top it begins to melt. Yum, my mouth waters just thinking about it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win this book, I'm fresh out of new reads.
Sounds like a delightful book. My favorite pie is sour cream lemon - to die for!!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite pie is what is on my plate at the time. Just kidding, I love pumpkin pie when it has whipped cream on it!
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed weekend,
Patti
My favoirte pie to eat is a peanutbutter pie! Mmmm. I'm known, however, for making blueberry pies.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite pie is Coconut Cream.
ReplyDeleteI guess my favorite pie would be peach. But I would rather have a peach blueberry cobbler!!
ReplyDeleteKey Lime!

ReplyDeleteIt is so hard to pick a favorite, as both savory and sweet pies are my favorites. For today, I'll name Chicken Potpie...that's what I'm making for dinner tonight!
ReplyDeleteBusy Hands...Happy Heart
Patricia
I bought this book back in December while visiting Lancaster Co because you described it in an early post last fall. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it as I knew it was written from experience and a working understanding of the Plain life.
ReplyDeleteSince I already have the book, please don't enter me in the giveaway, but I do want to tell you my favorite pies are: two crust apple pie made with Macintosh apples and pumpkin pie with whipped cream. I just can't choose between the two!
What a wonderful giveaway! I love quilting books. My favorite pie is a chocolate cream pie. My grandmother taught me to make pie crust from scratch and we always filled it with pudding made from Royal Dark N Sweet pudding mix. It's hard to find now but I snap it up when I can.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite pie is rhubarb.
ReplyDeleteOooohhh, how could I forget the Marlboro Pie made with applesauce, eggs and butter (almost like a custard). No clue to the origin of this pie but it's my husband's favorite .. runs a very close 2nd to my 1st picks!
ReplyDeleteI would love a copy of this book! My favorite pie? Strawberry rhubarb, made from the rhubarb in our garden.
ReplyDeleteFor me sour cherry pie. Esp. the one the Amish lady makes to sell at the little farmer's market.
ReplyDeleteFor me sour cherry pie. Esp. the one the Amish lady makes to sell at the little farmer's market.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite pie is Coconut Cream.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite pie growing up was Pumpkin Pie. In fact, I never had a birthday cake, only Pumpkin Pies! Now, I'd have to say a crumb-top Apple Pie, no top crust for me :-)
ReplyDeleteI do not know if I did this correctly, for I am new at blogging, but here is the link to my posting of your giveaway. I hope I did it right.
ReplyDeletehttp://crookedbarnpumpkinfarm.blogspot.com/2011/02/giveaway-at-joyful-chaos.html
My favorite dessert pie would be pecan; my favorite non-dessert pie would be tomato pie - a new recipe I discovered not too long ago in an Amish book. Yum!
ReplyDeletePecan for sure and then lemon chess.
ReplyDeleteChocolate or PB pie is my favorite (actually those are the only 2 kinds I like! haha). I loved reading this when I borrowed the series from an Amish friend and would love to own a copy to re-read!
ReplyDeleteYour book looks lovely. Where I live in England we are big on savoury pies - our family favourite is a steak pie. The filling is braised all day with vegetables. I use some of the filling to make a beef stock and a beef and vegetable soup so it is very economical. But the main steak, veg and stock are thickened up with a delicious gravy and then enveloped in a buttery pastry. The house smells really homey!
ReplyDeleteI would have to say that Pecan pie is my favorite- Pineapple Icebox pie is right up there at the top though too!
ReplyDeleteThe book looks really neat. I got into quilting about 5 years ago and really enjoy it.
Lisa :O)
My favourite savoury pie: fish pie (homemade using my MIL's recipe using baked hake, hard-boiled eggs, tomato, white sauce with mashed potato & cheese on top)
ReplyDeleteMy favourite sweet pie: 1.cream cheese pie with cherries on top OR 2.Mississippi Mud Pie
Very hard to choose my favorite pie; but I am going to say rhubarb!

ReplyDeleteMy favorite pie is homemade pumpkin followed closely by cherry. Yummy!
ReplyDeleteI tried to look for the book, but can't find it. Who is the author?
My alltime favorite pie is lemonaid pie. SO light and tangy!!!!
ReplyDeletePeach! Made w/fresh peaches. Mmm-mm-mmm.
ReplyDeleteHR
My favorite pie is Southern Comfort chocolate pecan pie. You can get the recipe on the Southern Comfort website. Don't worry--the booze all boils off in the oven, but it leaves behind a bit of a smokey taste to the pecans.
ReplyDeleteI love this pie so much that I have repeatedly set my oven on fire while baking it! Just be careful to use a ten inch pie pan, because the recipe makes a lot of filling, and it goes wooompf when it boils over. The worst pie I ever made was when I threw a whole box of baking soda in the oven to put out the fire and some got into the pe. :-)
I love Apple pie with a crumble topping and vanilla ice on the side and the apple pie must be warm. This book sounds very intersting.
ReplyDeleteI love Light fruity pies such Key lime or something similer:)
ReplyDeleteJennifer
Oh I would love to win this book! My favorite kind of pie is the Lemon Pie my brother makes. It has to be his too. He is a sous chef and this pie is amazing. He makes it like you make Key Lime Pie but with lemons and makes homemade whipped cream for the top and oh my, I could eat the whole thing!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite pie is Lemon Meringue that my great-aunt made when she was alive.

ReplyDelete~Cheryl
I wrote about the giveaway on my blog, you can see it here:
ReplyDeletehomeintheblueridge.blogspot.com
Thanks for the contest!
My mother's peach cobbler...not the typical you find in recipes. Her's was made in a 9x13 pan with a very flaky pie crust on the bottom...then the peaches...then fold the crust over the top. It didn't cover the whole top...just enough to have nice carmelized edges. YUM! She passed a couple of years ago and no one else's is the same...
ReplyDeleteMy favorite pie was always coconut cream, but it is too rich for me now. So my second favorite is Blueberry pie :-)
ReplyDeletePeanut Butter Pie- drooling at the thought! ;)
ReplyDeleteI would love to read this book. My favorite pie is strawberry-rhubarb.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is pumpkin pie, but buttermilk pie is a close second!!
ReplyDeleteNeeCee, the author is Rebecca Martin. Google: Old Order Mennonite The Pineapple Quilt....and it should show up.
ReplyDeleteWarm apple pie with vanilla ice-cream is the yummiest!
ReplyDeleteOooh, looks like a book I'd enjoy. :-)
ReplyDeleteYou're making this too hard! I'll have to give catergories.
Cream Pie- Coconut
Fruit Pie- Rhubarb
Other- Oatmeal (~this *may* be the absolute fave~)
Savory- Chicken Potpie...
--p
My favorite pie is rhubarb. I love to make all sorts of pies, but only really love the taste of a few. :)
ReplyDeleteFavorite pie...that is a hard one! I guess a really good apple pie made with cokking apples that keep their shape and aren't too sweet.
ReplyDeleteFavorite pie? Would have to go with lemon meringue as my very favorite with blueberry topped with ice cream as my second fav!
ReplyDelete~Jean
Favorite pie, Rhubarb Custard. So hard to wait in the spring for the first rhubarb.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this great giveaway!
I am with the lady that said whatever kind is on my plate :) I think key lime and banana/coconut cream are in my top favorites.
ReplyDeletesteffanie771 at hotmail dot com
Oh goodness I love pies. Particularly bakign them. I think my favorite would either have to be coconut creamor oatmeal pie. Oh but I do love strawberry too!
ReplyDeleteI have several favorite pies. I honestly can't decide if I like berry pie or peach pie more. I get both rarely, so both are a special treat. Lately I have been craving lemon merengue pie, too. :)
ReplyDeleteHmmmm....favorite pie - is this a trick question?! Okay, if I have to choose it would be strawberry pie, or coconut cream....okay, just one - coconut cream! Whew! The book sounds wonderful and I would love to read it! I have checked out Suzanne Woods Fisher's books from our library based on your recommendation, so I know I will love The Pineapple Quilt as well! If I don't win, I will have to try to buy it!

ReplyDeleteSo tough to choose just one pie as my favorite, because I love so many kinds of pie! Guess, if it has to be just one, I'll say good old apple.
ReplyDeleteAnnie Laurie
Mmm pie! I think my favorite is one my mom makes - milk custard pie, followed closely by shoo-fly & chess pie!
ReplyDeleteJessica
The best pie I ever tasted was an unbeleivable apple pie that was sold in a little store. they had just one table and they sold quilts and other home made items. we would ride our bikes ten minles just to have a slice of apple pie with home made icecream.
ReplyDeleteThis book sounds delightful. I love to learn about other lifestyles and in particular how religion shapes our lives.
ReplyDeletePie is something we don't have very often. My favourite is sticky and way too sweet caramel pie.
Steak and kidney with tomato sauce please, you eat them out of the brown paper bag and they taste better than using a knife and fork.I have been a lurker but you cannot stay there forever blessings Marie from Australia
ReplyDeletethis sounds like a book my sister would love~! my favorite pie is lemon meringue...hands down...but a close second is key lime. :)

Would enjoy this book. Anything Amish is good.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite pie is a coconut cream pie with real whipped cream! My husband created our recipe that we use. It taste just like the pie we use to eat at this little hole-in-the-wall diner in Shreveport, Louisiana when we first married.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is peanut butter pie made with corn syrup and peanut butter. After baking it smear chocolate on top. YUM!
ReplyDeleteI can't narrow it down to one favorite pie; my top 3 are fresh strawberry, pecan, and warm apple with vanilla ice cream.
ReplyDelete~Beverly Gingerich
I grew up in Kansas with Amish and Mennonites as our neighboring farms. Reading stories relating to their lives always stirs memories of home.
ReplyDeleteAs for pie, must we have only one favorite?
I quess it would have to be cherry with a pretty lattice topping; my mother always made them when we visited my grandmother.
My favorite type of pie is apple pie with cinnamon!
ReplyDeletehttp://hippiechickwithagypsysoul.blogspot.com/2011/02/ajoyfulchaosblogspotcom-giveaway.html
