Our family enjoys good homemade cookies. I have three recipes that we really like that I usually choose from when I feel like baking cookies. Which is kind of sad considering the fact I have lots of other recipes to choose from.
I was looking through one of my old Amish recipe books recently and found the recipe for Monster Cookies that my Mom used to make when I was a little girl. And last week I finally got to go to a bulk food store and purchased a big bag of M & M's. I forgot to buy peanut butter though so I will have to wait a little longer to bake them, but that doesn't keep me from sharing the recipe with all of you. (I dare you to make a whole batch.)
Monster Cookies
12 eggs
4 cup white sugar
4 cup brown sugar
2 cup softened butter
1 Tbsp vanilla
3 lb peanut butter
18 cup oatmeal
2 cup flour
8 tsp baking soda
1 lb M & M's
1 lb chocolate chips
Beat eggs; add sugars, vanilla, and butter. Mix and add peanut butter. Mix well. Add dry ingredients and mix very well. Shape into 2" balls. Flatten slightly and bake at 350 for 10 minutes.
On another note. Rosebud was so excited about all the M & M's that the first thing she told her Daddy when he came home that evening was. "Daddy, Mom bought a lot of enemies today!" It gave us a good chuckle and showed me that I really need to buy M & M's more often since our children don't even know the proper way to call them.

Mmmmm. I LOVE monster cookies and "enemies" too.
ReplyDeleteYour cookies sound yummy...guess I'd better buy some M & M's!
ReplyDeleteSunny :)
you have just inspired me to go bake some cookies with my youngest daughter...
ReplyDeleteA big bag of m&m's right now would be a bunch of enemies! Don't feel like eating after working in the heat but I'd down sixty-fourty handfuls of enemies right now for sure.
ReplyDeleteI'm not so sure buying them on a regular basis would make much difference. I have a fifteen year-old that has to think before she says the word spaghetti. But if you think it will help....
Sounds so good, I think I'll go out and buy some "enemies" myself!
ReplyDeleteLove those! They are a memorial day weekend tradition for our family and friend gathering. they make a ton and everyone loves them!
ReplyDelete18 cups of oatmeal??? Seriously, I don't think I have a bowl that big to hold everything! They sound so good though, and I need some chocolate right now ~ I guess I could go get some M&M's and skip the rest for now, but I'm in the mood for cookie dough, too! I mean, cookies, yeah, cookies! ha ha Thanks for sharing that, I bet a lot of copies are being made right now! YUMMMMMMM....
ReplyDeleteIt is sooo funny the things our kids will say! lol My daughter used to call them "Reds". hehehe The reason behind that was because at Christmas I had bought the red and green ones. In order for her to get 1 she had to tell me if it was red or green! hehehe Yes, I use M&M's to teach the kids their colors. They also work well at potty training a boy too! lol
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Angela

ReplyDeleteI've actually made these before. BIG BOWL!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for reminding me of these great cookies.

OK these are some MAJOR cookies!! The recipe looks huge and fabulous - I may have to give these a try!!
ReplyDeleteCute story of Rosy and the enemies - chuckle chuckle :D
I love these! We make them every single December before Christmas, and it's a tradition. I don't know if I can even eat them any other time! Isn't that funny?
ReplyDeleteEnjoy these, they are so yummy!
Monster cookies are delicious! Thank you for sharing the recipe. I got a laugh from "enemies." HA! :D

Going to have to give your recipe a try!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the bulk stores. There is one about two hours from here in the mountains where there are a lot of Mennonites and then I go in them in PA when up there in Amish areas.
HOWEVER, yesterday we went to a local non-chain grocery store Games Farmers Market. There was an awful fire there a few years ago and the owner re-built...When we pulled up Saturday morning they had more recently added on...or enclosed an outdoor produce area. There still was an outdoor produce area but inside a section away from the main section...some produce but as I went to the back what did my eyes behold but the clear plastic bags with the wonderful jellos, mixes, all types of pasta, rice, flours and over on the side wall to the right were shelves of SPICES!!!in the clear plastic round 'salad/spread' containers. A few short aisles held clear plastic bags of candies, snacks, etc. and also were shelves of relishes, pickles, jams, jellies, preserves...I was literally doing a happy dance!!! Came home and called my M-I-L and DH's aunt...we always give each other shopping lists when we know one of us is going to Amish/Mennonite Country where you typically find the bulk stores (not the Big Membership Stores).
At a guess how many biscuits would that recipe make? That is truly bulk baking!!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a keeper recipe! This would be great for a marathon baking day and a bunch of cookies in the freezer for new moms, sick friends, and rainy days! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite cookies ever!!!! Just reading your title made my mouth water and then I started drooling, which isn't very attractive at work. he he :)
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm down almost 10 lbs. and if I make these, I'll be up 40! lol
ReplyDeleteBut I'm definitely filing this away for one of those big "gotta take a lot!" days. And they sound AWESOME. Thanks for sharing!
How many monsters will this feed?? I came back from our family reunion with all the little cousins for a week. We will have to make some!
ReplyDeleteWe have made these 3 times now. I want to add the dough freezes wonderfully if you need to. The last time I made them it was for a church youth function and I doubled the recipe. There were none leftover!
ReplyDeleteSounds similar to what my best friend calls "Forever Cookies". As a new bride, she had enjoyed some cookies her mother-in-law had made, and asked for the recipe. Since they were so tasty, she decided to make a double batch, only to get down to the bottom and discover the final ingredient was SEVEN cups of flour - now fourteen! She said she and her husband ate those cookies forever. She still makes them, but only single batches!
