Wednesday Hodgepodge
1. What's something in your house you'd like to get rid of but can't?
I'd love to get rid of the carpeted floors, but I can't.
If I were ever to build a new house there wouldn't be any carpeting involved. I would much rather sweep and mop, than vacuum. And know my floors are clean. I never feel as if my floors are clean even though they get vacuumed at least once a day, often more.
2. When is the last time you experienced a sense of nostalgia? Elaborate.
Probably at my brother's wedding. Hearing all the old Amish wedding songs. (You can listen to a snippet of it here.) Seeing the same bishop who married us, marry them. It brought back waves of nostalgia and emotions.
3. You're only allowed three apps on your smart phone or tablet...which three do you keep?
I only downloaded two apps. Instagram which I happen to really like. You can find me here. The second app is Inkpad. I love it to be able to take quick notes and reminders for myself. The third app came preinstalled, but it's my favorite. The camera.
4. July 11th is National Blueberry Muffin Day. Who knew? Do you like blueberry muffins? If you were going to have a muffin would blueberry be your choice? What's the last thing you baked?
Muffins aren't really my thing, having had way too many of those dry-ish crumbly things as a child. If I had to eat a muffin, a blueberry one would be my choice.
The last thing I baked was a Stromboli. The last thing that was baked in my kitchen were these delicious blueberry cream cheese treats. Rosie Mae and Steven made them.
5. What's the biggest way you've changed since you were a child? In what way are you still the same?
One of the biggest ways I've changed is by no longer being Amish. Other less blatantly obvious changes are that I'm less shy, less agile, more confident, and I no longer have to be on a crazy hard diet.
A way that I'm still the same. I still love, love, love the feel of a pen in my hand and a new notebook ready and waiting to be filled.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
Last week there was a run away garbage truck down the mountain. It ended badly. The driver survived, but the truck did not. As badly as I feel for the driver and his helper guys that had been hanging onto the back of the truck ... I am not enjoying the growing pile of garbage out by the road that is still waiting to be picked up.

We removed the carpet in our house when we moved. I love my hardwood floors much better.
ReplyDeleteI agree with getting rid of the carpet. I hate ours too!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the Amish singing. It sounds as if they are doing Gregorian Plainsong. That sort of singing is one of my most cherished memories. Thanks for "taking me back".
ReplyDeleteI am thinking there will be no carpet in our next house either.
ReplyDeleteYour baked treats look yummy!
I too am a member of the carpet haters club!
ReplyDeleteI don’t like carpet either. We removed it in the dining room, living room and stairs, but still have it in the bedrooms. I would like to put hardwoods everywhere. So much easier to keep clean. Blessings, Betsy
ReplyDeleteI hate carpet too! It never feels clean or even smells clean. Luckily we only have 2 rooms with carpet. Some day they will will be hardwood as well.
ReplyDeleteOne of the best things we did was get rid of our carpet a year or so ago. Your blueberry treats looks so delicious!
ReplyDeleteCarpet was my answer too! I HATE my carpet!!! I will be ripping it out myself and installing hardwood through my whole condo after I study some videos on youtube! LOL!Annster's Domain
ReplyDeleteOh mercy! A runaway garbage truck. We were forced to get rid of the downstairs carpet when a leak in the foundation was discovered. We still have carpet upstairs and while I would love to have new carpet, the thought of everything being ripped up and furniture moved, it just sounds so very hard. My carpet is old, but it still looks new, thank goodness. Your blueberry Stromboli looks wonderful and you're right about the camera on the phone. That is the absolute best!
ReplyDeleteHow amazing that the driver and workers on the garbage truck are okay. Yikes. I'd love to get rid of carpeting, too! I didn't list my camera as one of my 3 apps to keep. What was I thinking?

I hate carpet, too, but mostly I hate the sound of a vacuum cleaner. Give me a broom any day rather than a loud dust blower.
ReplyDeleteI can't get those blueberry cream cheese tarts out of my mind. Would Rosie Mae like to share the recipe? I'd love to make them.
Droolin' in the South,
Toni
I am sooooo with you about the carpet! We have faux wood floors in most of our house, and we love it. Only the bedrooms are carpeted. I have a Roomba that vacuums everything but the carpet (I close the bedroom doors). Carpet is such a pain - especially when you have pets or people with allergies in the home.
ReplyDeleteYes about allergies. We ripped out almost all of the carpet in our Atlanta house and installed wood floors - my problems with allergies decreased by at least 50%. Our current house has no carpeting.
DeleteWhen we built this house 40 years ago we had carpet everywhere, even in the kitchen!! Slowly we've gotten rid of all of it and now it's tiles, wood, and some laminate. Much easier to keep clean.
ReplyDeleteAgreed! Sweeping is better than vacuuming. I don't mind little rugs - like by the kitchen sink or next to the bed - things like that can be washed or shaken out.
ReplyDeleteThose tarts look SO good! I long to have an oven again and start seeking out new recipes.
That must have been a big decision to quit the Amish community ! But apparently it was good for you. I got rid of my carpeted floor years ago, it was terrible when they took it out what dirt was underneath ! I am happy now with tiles, so easy to clean !
ReplyDeleteI am right there with you on the carpet thing! I hate carpets! Especially with four dogs. I do need to have my wooden kitchen floor sanded and urethaned again. But I do love wooden floors.
ReplyDeleteJust a few months ago we ripped out the carpet in our living room. I like the hardwood so much better. Those blueberry treats look amazing!
