Wednesday Hodgepodge
I don't believe in luck. I believe in blessings from God and the law of sowing and reaping.
2. Not counting your own backyard, what's a favorite green space in your town, city, or state?
One of my favorite places to visit is absolutely gorgeous during the warmer months. Following a narrow footpath through acres of fens and then through meadows with wildflowers, past the crumbling stone foundation of what must have been a mansion back in the early days of our country, all the way back to a lake filled with sparkling clear water. The grass on the banks is so soft, and provides a delightful place to sit and simply soak in all the beauty while the children go wading.
3. How do you make your life more complex than it needs to be?
I don't think I do. I enjoy simplicity and try to keep my life that way.
4. I read here the three places you should visit with friends. They are-New York City, Hawaii, and Amsterdam (rent a bike, walk along the canal, visit one of their world class museums). I felt the need to expound on that one. Moving on...Of the three places listed which would you most like to visit with friends? What's one place not on the list you think should be visited with friends?
None of those places really appeal to me, so I would probably need friends to go with me to even consider visiting them. Hawaii does sound nice, and I'd like to see it, but there is no way I want to fly, and forget about even suggesting a boat might be a possibility.
5. What's the last live performance you saw? On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being best) how would you rate it?
Does a Christmas pageant count? I think I'll refrain from rating it.
6. March 14th is National Potato Chip Day. Are you a fan? Your favorite flavor? Besides potato, what's your favorite chip type of snack?
I am a fan of potato chips, but I hardly ever have any. My favorite flavor is simply the plain original chips, preferably the wavy cut.
7.What rule is most important in your home?
Clean up after yourself ....... no, not really, though that is something we do. The most important one is treating each other with kindness and respect.
8. Insert your own random thought here.
The lamp I used to keep beside my chair in the living room gave us a little scare. After having it for ten years, maybe it was beginning to feel as if we take it for granted or something, because it grabbed our attention by cracking loudly. I though the light bulb might have blown, but it was still fine. Upon further inspection we discovered that it had caught on fire. Thankfully the fire went out almost immediately and only scorched the doily the lamp had been setting on. We chucked it and I'm now liking the new lamp I have, though I seem to have some trust issues since the episode with the old lamp.

Your walk sounds delightful. But the lamp episode sounds scary. Maybe unplug the new one from the mains to give you extra reassurance at night time or when you're away from the house.
ReplyDeleteUnplugging while not in use, sounds like a good idea.
DeleteI can understanding about the concerns over the lamp and Wendy has a good suggestion. I sometimes get overwhelmed with concern for all the stuff we have plugged in. Humidifiers, air cleaners, lamps, certain kitchen things etc... . Right after we moved in here 28 yrs ago I came downstairs after we had gone to bed to get something I had forgotten and saw arcs of fire shooting across a back room! It was coming from the electrical box that needed updating. Nothing was damaged amazingly and we had the problem fixed immediately, but I still struggle with sleeping upstairs at times. I believe God will provide a way of escape if necessary and if it is within His plan for us.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the green space - same kind of thing we love. That sounds so wonderful right now after the Winter.
Yikes! Having arcs of fire shooting across the room sounds scary.
DeleteAhhhh...number 2 sounds so peaceful! Yikes for number 8...same thing happened to me a few months ago with one of those new enviro friendly bulbs...scary...sure glad you're ok!! Happy hodgepodge!
ReplyDeleteWe had the same experience with those curly-q bulbs. We switched over to LED now and love them.
DeleteLove your answers. I am totally with you on simplicity!
ReplyDeleteIs it ok to answer these here? :)
1. What do you think about luck?
Nope. Totally believe in God's providence. What is luck? Someone told me once the phrase "good luck" comes from the name Lucifer. I have no idea if that's true.
2. Not counting your own backyard, what's a favorite green space in your town, city, or state?
It would be the parks in this area I go to with my boys. We are blessed to live in a beautiful area.
3. How do you make your life more complex than it needs to be?
Worry. It does nothing but stress the soul.
4. I read here the three places you should visit with friends. They are-New York City, Hawaii, and Amsterdam...
SO Hawaii. So not NYC!
5. What's the last live performance you saw? On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being best) how would you rate it?
I saw Les Miserables in college. It was fantastic!
6. Potato chips...
Too carby unfortunately.
7.What rule is most important in your home?
My Prime Directive: do not talk about or think about anything important after 9pm. This rule is just for me. I think it has saved me a lot of trouble!
8. Insert your own random thought here.
If a woodchuck could chuck wood, how much wood would a woodchuck chuck? Sorry...that randomly popped to mind. :)
Have a good day! This was fun. Hope it was ok to do it here.
Enjoyed all your answers. Feel free to play along when ever you like!
DeleteYour rule about not talking about important things after 9 PM sounds wise.
Sounds like you have the perfect place to enjoy the beautiful outdoors. Lucky you!
ReplyDeleteThanks, it is the perfect place!
DeleteOh man, I want to visit your green place. It sounds heavenly. I like your other answers and interesting about the lamp. Glad you caught it.
ReplyDeleteWe're also glad we caught the lamp! Could have been a lot more scary.
DeleteOh my! So glad you were there and tossed that lamp away fast. I find myself unplugging things quite often. Hawaii is a lovely place to visit, although I've gone with my husband and not other friends and we had a wonderful time. NYC, not so much. Never been there and have no desire to go. I do love London and Tokyo and would go back there tomorrow if I could.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
I hope you get to visit London and Tokyo again someday.
DeleteWe have one lamp that has had its wiring replaced twice. They don't make 'em like that anymore...couldn't replace it if I wanted to. I'm glad the end of yours was caught early!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad too, it could have been bad.
Deleteglad you are ok.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Me too.
DeleteHmm. The only one of those three places that would interest me would be Amsterdam. We have a fiend who is a Lutheran minister in NYC, and have been there fairly often. As the saying goes, "It's a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there".
ReplyDeleteI like Sandi's answer about not making decisions after 9 PM. And absolutely NOT until I've finished my first cup of coffee!
We are very fortunate that the county in which we live has taken a lot of interest in parks and other open spaces. An old railroad right of way has been turned into a walking path, and we are surrounded on three sides by a state park, so our back yard is full of all sorts of wild life.
Sounds like you live in a lovely area!
DeleteOne of my favorite quotes: The only luck you have in this life is the talent you're born with. The rest is up to you.

That's a good quote, but even that "luck" could be considered a blessing.
DeleteI so badly want to come over to your favorite green space. Not that we don't have any here, but your description is so good.
ReplyDeleteI don't blame you. :) It's one of my favorite spots!
DeleteWe have rental furniture currently, and the lamp in our living room is fussy. I make it a point not to leave it on when we're out because I'm not sure it's trustworthy. Sorry to be so late reading this week, but I made it before the new questions were posted so I'm considering it a win : )
