I was delighted today when the mail brought a package with a few old photos from my childhood. I can well remember the day these were taken and will share the story later but I was so excited that I couldn't wait to share some of the pictures with you.
The kitchen in our new addition with furniture that Daddy had made. Our Pioneer Maid wood stove was serving as a lamp-stand during the summer while we used our kerosene stove to avoid the extra heat that cooking on a wood stove would cause.
Daddy getting ready to turn a plain piece of lumber into arm rests for rocking chairs.
Daddy putting a dining chair together.
John is helping and David watching as Daddy continues to assemble the chair.
Daddy cutting out the arm rests on the band saw.
Choretime, as Daddy leads one of our horses to the barn and Jenny the cow follows to be milked.
WOW I just love these pictures. This is so unbelievably cool.
ReplyDeleteThese are great. There are so many tools on the wall behind your dad, and I'm sure he used each and every one of them. Thanks for sharing the wonderful photos.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Marcia
Your father is very talented. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI've said it before, but I better get an autographed copy of your book WHEN you write it!!! The pictures are just perfect, both the old and new. Why did they let their pictures be taken and who took them, do you know?? And where are you, Miss Chaos?? ☺ I can just imagine your excitement when you got those in the mail!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Imperfect - You should write a book and include the photos.
ReplyDeleteThese are fantastic - Love the tools, the beard, etc...
Priceless pictures! Your Dad's shop reminds me of my grandfather's. He died before I was born but I remember it as my uncle's shop. Wish I had a picture of it. I have one that was in the newspaper of my grandfather and uncle making dining room chairs for grandfather's cousin. They had a huge bandsaw like that and woodworking tools hanging on the walls.
ReplyDeleteIt is so rare for an Amish family to have family pictures! You are very lucky, and I can see why you would treasure these. Your mom kept a very tidy kitchen!
ReplyDeleteI can just imagine how wonderful it must be to have received those pictures! Each one has so much to say. I especially like the kitchen with the pieced quilt, green window shades and red counter tops. Can't wait to hear the story that of the day they were taken.
ReplyDeleteWhat a Treasure! Your dad sure did look young in those pictures. And they are so clear too! Don't you just love it when you get a package like that in the mail! I have been trying to get pictures of my grand parents from a few cousins who say they have some but they won't scan them in for me. I've even offered to take them out to lunch my treat and then we would go to Staples to copy them which I would pay for but it looks as though that is not going to happen as I asked well over 2 months ago. Sigh..... a long run on sentence I know! lol

ReplyDeleteBeen lazy about reading blogs and writing in mine...but think we are back on the line now LOL..and your pictures are precious...and the furniture your Dad made...wow...awesome...and the pic of you holding your baby girl..sweet..we see Amish families coming thru our area from time to time..specially if we are in a "Cracker Barrell" having breakfast..and I try not to stare but I think they are so sweet looking..so peaceful...so contented in their expressions...makes me glad to be in the same room with them...hopefully they forgive that I do stare LOLOL...hugs from Ora in Kentucky
ReplyDeleteWonderful to see MA.

I sure wonder what the story is behind these pictures. A person doesn't just go into an Amish home and start taking pictures.
ReplyDeleteTreasured photos for sure!!!
ReplyDeleteHop over for a giveaway. Tell your friends.
Wonderful photos! Thanks for sharing them with us. I am struck by the organization of the tools in your dads workshop~it speaks to the fact that your dad well cared for everything. His work is beautiful, the table and chairs are works of art. You must be very proud of him.
