The things we think can and do have a huge impact on our life. We can't help some of the thoughts that flit through our mind, but we do have the power not to meditate on the less than desirable ones.
With everything that is going on in today's world it's easy to allow thought patterns to go where we don't want them to linger. Because of this our family is currently doing a thought challenge. Any thought that doesn't conform to Philippians 4:8 needs to go and be replaced with something good within seven seconds.
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
That is so very true. I meditate on this one often!
ReplyDeleteamen, so true
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! Our thoughts can lead us into all kinds of troubles, even sin.

For me it's very important to catch my dark thoughts quick otherwise I slip into depression too easily so I think you've got a very good tradition there.

Lovely reminder Mary. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThoughts we dwell upon become our actions.
Our actions become our habits.
Habits become the way we live and in turn that becomes our destiny.
A good exercise.

Paul is so good to remind us to concentrate on what is good, right, and just. Your family challenge turns it in to a habit. What a crucial mindset for life.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of a great story I recently read involving two young children in NY, their wise father and a loaf of fresh bread. "Each time we think of Harold Young, we should try to think of something nice to say or do for him," said the wise dad. I think your children can RELATE to this story. :)
How interesting .... I hadn't even stopped to think how those seeds for focusing on positivity had been planted all those years ago. Thanks for the reminder. :)
