After my unintentional break from blogging, thanks to several days without internet service and then dealing with a nasty flu virus, I'm back and ready to go.
The girls are still sick, but they're so much easier to care for than Buddy was. He wanted to be held constantly and by no one but me.
I had stopped making New Year's resolutions a long time ago. Maybe it was the goals I set that were too unrealistic, and then the feeling of failure and disappointment when I realized that I had broken them usually within the first few days that made me decide not to make any more.
Rosebud was enthused about making some New Year's resolutions and as we were discussing them we decided to make resolutions that involved the whole family. This year we are taking a slightly different approach and we're creating a list of twelve things we would like to do in 2013. The idea was to pick one thing off the list each month and concentrate on it.
January we'll be trying a new recipe every day. Another month we want to walk to the tunnel on a nearby hiking trail at least twice a week. Someone else chose for us to sing several songs every night before we go to bed.
For the first time ever I'm actually looking forward to achieving everything on our list, and having a lot of fun while doing so.
Hope that everyone gets back to feeling better very soon...Ugh, especially don't like it when the kids are sick, nothing worse...have a great new year's :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a really great idea. I think I'll talk to my husband and daughters about this idea. I hope your children feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are feeling better. flu is no fun!
ReplyDeleteSorry your kiddies have been sick - I was hoping you were just taking a well deserved break. I hope everyone is 100% soon.
ReplyDeleteHappy new year!
Your getting all of your sickness out of the way in 2012 so that the winter of 2013 can be sick-free.
ReplyDeleteHappy Happy New Year!
That sounds like a great list.....blessings on your new year. Love the picture of the bridge....thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWonderful list and so much better than the usual resolutions that are so difficult to stay with. Prayers for a speedy recovery for everyone.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
Emergen-C is my friend in winter---1 packet a day. Comes in several flavors. Also might try black elderberry syrup---1 tsp per person per day. Seems to keep sickness away.
ReplyDeleteHope you all feel better soon. I like your list for 2013. Sounds like a lot of fun family time!
ReplyDeleteI like your family goals idea for the coming year. More fun! I'm not a journaler because I know I'd never stick with it, but I saw something about keeping a journal next to my bed just to write down one memory, or gratefulness, each day. Short and to the point, I can do that.
ReplyDeleteI rarely stick to resolutions, too, but I just love to make them. Any time like this or Lent or Advent to try and make a change, I'm all up for that. Good luck to all of us - there's never anything wrong with making positive goals, as long as we can easily forgive ourselves if we don't reach them. :) So so happy your sickies are on the mend - you know I feel your pain. At least none of mine wanted me to hold them - thank goodness, considering the smallest one is at least 100 lbs. LOL
Great ideas! I am SO glad you are on the mend. My husband and I spent one New Year's Day, beginning at 1 AM, running back and forth between two children, the bathtub, the washer and dryer. We laugh, now but it sure wasn,t funny then!
ReplyDeleteUmmmmmmm I like that idea. Do one special thing a month. That is doable. May this year be kind to your family and may you enjoy days filled with laugter. My your tears only be ones for JOY not saddness.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year... although it's two year in the future from when you wrote this... :)
ReplyDeleteI've finished another year as I read the last post of 2012.
Want to know my favorite post from this year?? I guess it would have to be the one where your mom made the little twins out of a hanky to keep you occupied during church when you were a little girl. A wash of memories of my mother doing the same thing flooded over me. My mom is 89 now. I think I'll make a little hanky twin dolls for her the next time I go to visit.
Thanks for that memory.
