Monday Ramble

I'm back! My Mom's visit was everything I dreamed it would be. It was absolutely great to be able to visit, laugh, and work together like we used to do and the children greatly enjoyed getting to know her as well.

Other than the stories I used to tell them they barely knew her so they really enjoyed her visit.

~~~~~~~~~
We live far enough inland that the effects of hurricane Irene were minimal. Our power was off almost all day Saturday. Thankfully it is back on by now and I can't help but think of all the people that are affected by the storm much more than we were and hope that their lives can continue like normal before long as well.
~~~~~~~~~

At four this morning we were awakened by an awful noise. After sitting up and listening and peering out the window we couldn't see or hear anything else so tried to get our remaining thirty minutes of sleep before the alarm clock goes off.

As the first streaks of dawn were tinting the sky we noticed that the entire fence to the cow pasture along the road, beside the creek was wiped away. Somewhere someone has a pretty dinged up car! The fence has been replaced already and as far as I know none of the cows wandered out on the road because of this.

  1. So glad that you enjoyed you Mom's visit. How wonderful! And that you were able to escape the wrath of Irene!
    Apparently someone was having some difficulty reaching their home early this morning? It's too bad that the owners have to repair something that wasn't their doing. It has happened to us before minus the cows though.

  2. I'm so very glad your mom's visit was enjoyed by everyone. An answer to much prayer, I'm sure.

    Oh my, a hit-n-run fence episode! We've had a few of those here, too. Thankfully, fences are easier to replace than cars and lives. :)
    Have a wonderful day!

  5. Glad to know you had a nice visit and that you're okay after the hurricane!

    I'm always amazed how many cars hit the fence that surrounds our neighborhood. Apparently it's getting harder and harder to drive in a straight line these days. :)

  7. Glad you had a good visit:D It's amazing how people just run right through a fence and don't even think of it as destroying someone's personal property. Glad no cows were lost!

  10. I'm glad you all enjoyed your Mom's visit! :)

    I'm also glad that you didn't have any issues (other than lack of power) because of the hurricane, and that none of the cows got out when the fence got damaged!

  11. So glad your visit with your Mom was so good! I'll have one with one of my daughters next weekend, and I look so forward to it!

    As for storm damage, we had none at our inland home in SC,not even a drop of rain or breath of wind. However,hours after Irene scurried up to Vermont for our old NY state hometown, my daughter called and said that a tree just fell on her car, and it's totalled. Thankfully, she and her daughters are safe! (you can see pics on my blog.)

  13. Hooray for the great visit with Mom and happy ending for cows ... not so for the owner of the car, but ... then he shouldn't have just left the scene, either ... probably under the influence of something, sadly. Hurricane has blown on through and we are drying out and gathering branches. No flooding at our home but others not faring as well. Home town is a mess and prayers are needed long into the next month for those who lost their homes.

  14. Great to rejoice with you over the visit with your mother and a blessing it went well. Also praise the Lord Irene did no damage, yet we pray for those who were hit, that God will be with them and send them all the help they need to recover. I have an aunt and uncle how live at the end of a “T”, at least once every year a vehicle ends up in their yard, but a few times a vehicle was going to fast it took out their garage, but they praise God so far no one has been seriously injured.
