Last night we got several gallon of paint, so as you can imagine I'm quite busy today. Since it's cold outside I don't want to have the windows open so I'm looking for some other ways to help with the fresh paint smell.
I sliced several onions like my Mom used to do and placed them in the rooms I'm working in. I'm not sure if they actually absorb any of the paint smell or if they only add their own special aroma to the room.
I also decided to use my aunts method and have a dish or two of fresh vanilla setting on a windowsill. Again I'm not sure if it's helping.
Do you have any hints on what to do to help get rid of the smell?
Yeah, put on a sweater and open the windows! LOL
ReplyDeleteBut all kidding aside, I wonder if baking soda would help. It absorbs odors in the fridge. Why not in a room?
If you have a box fan, put it so that it "backwards" so that it will draw the fumes out of the room you're working in. The problem is, that the fumes will go into another room but it won't be so concentrated where you are working.
ReplyDeleteThere is a difference between absorbing odors and getting rid of any bad chemicals you are breathing in. Oil-based paints are more harmful and you should open the windows or wait until spring. With water-based, open windows are still the best idea.
ReplyDeleteI hate the smell of paint, so we always buy low VOC or no VOC paint. It makes such a difference!
ReplyDeleteVinegar is good for removing smells. Set a dish in a room, that may help.
ReplyDeleteI've used Vinegar fir it and it works pretty good..
ReplyDeleteI don't know what you should do if you can't open windows, but my boys think they do, they said just stop painting lol, thought that was too good not to tell.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Kate .. put on a sweater, turn down the thermostat and open up the windows :-)
ReplyDeleteWait for good weather. That's what I'm doing.
ReplyDeletePlace bowls of vinegar around. It helps to absorb the smell of paint.
ReplyDeleteYou have better suggestions than I do..........maybe just open the doors and windows and wear a jacket? Blessings, Kathleen
ReplyDeleteI was always told to have a bucket of water in the room so that it would absorb the fumes. I guess a bucket of water with a splash of vinegar and a dash of bicarbonate of soda might do it!
ReplyDeleteI set candles to burn in the kitchen after I fry fish and they freshen up the air nice. Maybe candles would help with painting too.
ReplyDeleteHow about Christmas aroma on the stovetop? A cup of water, some orange peels, cinnamon sticks, and whole cloves. Just let it simmer and add some more water from time to time.
