Giveaway!

Curling up on a comfortable chair in the living room with a pile of old Young Companion magazines that Grandpa's had kept and loaned to us to read was one of my favorite ways to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon. Each issue was filled with stories about Amish youth. There were always continued stories that I would have to get all the magazines in order to make sure I have the next installment ready to read as soon as I needed  it.

There were many great stories and one I enjoyed in particular was about a young girl, Miriam Schlabach, who was wanting to join the instruction classes in order to become a member of the church. her best friend Elsie was also planning to join but wasn't being a good influence on Miriam's life since she was still drawn to things that were forbidden by the church.
Not long ago I found that they had taken this continued story from the Young Companion and published it in a little book.

If you would like to have a chance to own this book leave a comment telling me what you did on Thanksgiving.

As always, for a second entry post a link to my giveaway on your blog and come back and leave another comment telling me you did.

I will be choosing a winner using random.org on Monday Nov. 29th

Giveaway is closed and a winner announced.

  2. Morning spent making carrot cake and homemade rolls (made with butter, dipped in butter, then drizzled with butter before baking, then butter added before eating). Dinner was at parents home, eating turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, dressing, salads, creamed peas, 3 different pies, carrot cake, and lets not forget the rolls. Then watch movies of family gatherings taken over 20 years ago. It was a great day.

  3. My parents, children, and I went to my brother's house for Thanksgiving. It was really nice to do something different, as this was our first Thanksgiving after the death of my husband. My SIL did a wonderful job with the meal, and her children kept mine occupied and happy.

  7. We had Thanksgiving dinner at our home with family (including my 88 year old mother who lives with us) and a friend from church who has no family in the area. After dinner we watched pictures our friend had taken on a recent trip to Australia. It was a special, peaceful day. We have so much to be thankful for.

  8. On Thanksgiving my son and daughter in love came home for the day. They are expecting my first grandchild and so we had lots to give thanks for that day.

I am in a wheelchair and not able to do the whole dinner on my own. I am so thankful that my kids come home and make it possible for me to share in a Thanksgiving meal.

    Praise the Lord.

  11. I had my in-laws in their 90's, daughters, son-in-laws, seven grandchildren, friend of one of the grandsons, 18 of us. A 91 year old neighbor who usually joins us wasn't up to it so we fixed him plates of food and took it over to his house so he'd have a good meal.

  13. I cooked for my family. Children, spouses and grandchildren. It was a lovely time. After everyone left, my husband and I enjoyed a quiet evening at home. As much as we love our big family, we always look forward to that time, and the leftovers.

    Blessings,
    Elizabeth

  22. Well, to begin with, I did not celebrate Thanksgiving (as we know it here in America) when I was growing up in Germany, but after I moved here and observed American customs, I was always the cook in the house. I love cooking for people and after the meal, I did the dishes, while everyone else flopped down on the couch to watch a football game, but I didn't mind. I was happy to have made everyone full and content with my food.

  27. On Thanksgiving, we hosted 17 family members. We provided roast turkey, ham, stuffing, and gravy. Everyone brought a dish to share. Some family members are experiencing some sore trials right now, but my nephew and his wife shared joyful news of a new little one on the way. Thanks be to God!

  31. I usually get to take the day off from cooking on Thanksgiving, but this year I decided to cook, so that's how I spent most of my day. The next day we had friends over and we shared all of our leftover pies and desserts, which was great fun. I think we may do a potluck next year, or possibly pizzas in the shape of a turkey - I'm not sure I want a repeat of this year! ~Wendy

  36. Enjoyed having my 91 year old mother visiting. Enjoyed being able to sleep in a little bit. Watched a little bit of a Thanksgiving Day parade, then went to church at 9:30am. After church, gathered with family still in the area for food, family, and fellowship. Pam M.
