Mom and Daddy kept our home library filled with good books. During winter months Mom would read to us before we went to bed and when ever we had some spare time you could find us somewhere enjoying a book.
One of my favorites was the book, "His Protecting Hand" based on a true story about the life of an Amish girl. What made it even more special to me was that my Grandma Mast personally knew "Lillie". I always marvelled at the strength and courage Lillie and her mother portrayed throughout the book as their family experienced many hardships of pioneer life.
If you would like a chance to win this book leave a comment telling me something you would like to have for dinner tonight.
For a second entry share a link for this giveaway on your blog and then come back and leave another comment telling me that you did. Be sure to make that I have a way to contact you if you are chosen as the winner.
I will choose a winner on Thursday Nov 11th using Random.org
Disclaimer: The only compensation I get from having this giveaway is the warm happy feeling of knowing I get to give one of my readers a book that has been one of my favorites for years.
I would LOVE to have a good beef steak, but till we butcher our cow we will have to make do with hamburger. LOL
ReplyDeleteChili sounds good on this cold, blustery day -- I just won a book in your giveaway last time so I'll give someone else a chance this time! It does look like a good read though.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to not cook and go out to dinner, but I will be making beef tips and rice tonight for dinner...

ReplyDeleteWhat I would *like* to have for dinner is seven-layer salad, or maybe chicken and noodles. I haven't even decided yet what we actually have. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win a book you loved so much.
What memories this book brings back! It was one of my favorites as a teenager. I was so thrilled when my grandma gave me my own copy, which I still have. :)
ReplyDeleteI personally knew the author, Mollie, in her later years, and even lived in the basement of her house for a while. She was an interesting lady.
I don't need to be entered in the giveaway, since I have a copy.
I want enchildaa, but I want someone else to make them. haha
ReplyDeleteWe're having leftover cheeseburger soup, but you probably could guess that. ;-) As for what I would like to have tonight, fried chicken and corn on the cob would suit, especially eaten at the picnic table on a summer day. Sign me up for the giveaway, and yes, there is a link to it on my blog.
ReplyDeleteWe are having fresh fish the hubby brought home. I think I will fry both sweet potatoes and yukon golds with it. A little cole slaw will round out our meal.

ReplyDeleteHard to say what we'll have for supper. Husband always wants something different than what I plan on so I usually wait until he gets home and then it's a really hectic time in the kitchen many times it's kind of like when you wrote about cooking turkey for LV lol!
ReplyDeleteBecause fall is in the air, I want a good pot of beans with ham hock, no onions (don't do those) with homemade bread and butter. Nothing better on a cold fall evening.
ReplyDeleteWe will be making some whole wheat tortillas and then make burritos with them.
ReplyDelete~Cheryl
My mouth is watering for homemade bbq meatballs with homemade noodles, but our budget doesn't allow me to use that much meat for one meal so I still have to decide what to make that uses 1 lb of meat for 10 people.
ReplyDeleteI am enjoying 'getting to know you' through your blog. Makes me wish I could live next door and pop over for tea. :) We are having calico chili, cornbread, and salad for supper tonight.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorite books but I have never owned so I'd love to now! :-) I would love to have homeade pizza tonight :)

After my long day working in the ER, I've settled in to read your blog. I work 12 hours and usually eat an evening meal at work but today I got off early (after only 10 hours). I have homemade beef and barley soup in the freezer and that sounds good. It was excellent the day I made it and feezes well. I'm off to the microwave.

I just finished putting some chicken in a marinade. Tomorrow night, we'll have chicken tacos. The recipe is one that I used when I worked at a cafe years and years ago, and its base includes lime and appple juice, two ingredients I would never have thought of on my own.
ReplyDeleteThis is the second time trying to leave a comment by a computer illiterate. Hamburger gravy over mashed potatoes with brown sugar buttered carrots, a tossed salad, and apple crisp sounds good to me. Will try to make this on the weekend and freeze in small portions for several nights dinners.
ReplyDeleteHave been enjoying your blog for the past week or so. You have a beautiful family, some great recipes, and are a talented young woman.
This comment is my entry in your contest! Thanks for the opportunity!
Blessings to you and yours,
