Thank you for letting us know about the interview! You did a great job! You are as good a storyteller as you are a writer.
I'm so sorry that you don't have contact with your parents. Even though there were many restrictions on my visits to my parents when they were still alive, I could still visit and we exchanged letters between visits.
Isn't it interesting that your family and your husband's family were both from the same community, and yet your parents have such different reactions from his parents? Sometimes I find it all so arbitrary...
I hope your parents will come around. It is amazing what time can do. When I went back for my father's funeral after being away for 24 years, I was amazed with the friendly reception I got from my original community, and from cousins from some of the strictest communities, such as Cashton and Conewanga Valley. That would not have happened in the years right after I left.
On a lighter note, next time you're interviewed, I'd love to hear you tell the story of the pail on the goat's head. I laughed out loud when I read that! I also loved the story about the chain saw. What a vivid imagination you had!
I didn't get to hear you last night but I tuned in this Morn. it was great, some of it woke up some of our memories, like the same time they asked your Dad to farm they asked us to put away our hydrolic barn gutter cleaner, we could not get them to let us keep it. but we moved less then a year later.THANKS for creating memories
Sadly not in France though.
