Pet Peeves

I was surprised recently when I received an email from a reader that felt I'm not being honest on my blog. That I'm always focusing on good and happy things.  I chuckled about it, deleted it, and have thought about it since and decided to do a post on some of my pet peeves and things I dislike.
  1. Mud.  I don't enjoy going outdoors and having to wade through mud to get to where I want to go. I also don't enjoy having it tracked into the house by people who don't have the courtesy to remove their shoes inside the door.
  2. Health fanatics. I really don't have the slightest interest in the latest greatest health food and healthy diets. I find it very annoying when pale sickly people try to tell me how to eat more healthy.
  3. On a similar note. I really cringe when I have to listen to your tale about the last time you were sick or the details of childbirth. Those are on the list of least favorite topics of discussion.
  4. Bad movies. After watching them they make me feel like I totally wasted an hour or two of my life that I'll never be getting back.
  5. Surprise parties.  I despise these with a passion. If you're tired of having me as a friend go ahead and throw a surprise party in my house for me. That should do the trick.
Those are only a few things on my list of pet peeves and things I dislike. So you see, my life isn't perfect at all, but I choose not to focus on all the little annoyances but rather on things that make me smile. It helps my sanity and the sanity of my family and will hopefully help me be a sweeter person once I'm eighty.

  1. Great post. I can't believe anyone made a negative comment about you not being negative! Anyway...your blog needs to be what you want it.

  2. What is the purpose of focusing on the negatives? I try very hard to focus on the positives, although sometimes it is hard, but it certainly help me through the difficult times. It amazes me that people are trying to tell you how you should feel or deal with your life issues.

  3. It's like that saying, "You can't win for losing."

I received lots of "you're too sour" emails. A friend received the same type you did - "you're too positive."

Some folks don't have enough to do!

  4. I totally agree about the movies! I like to learn about health stuff but I don't usually preach it. :) I love your positive posts they are motivating!

  5. lol...oh my...hope no one throws a surprise party! Isn't it weird that people want to read bad stuff in our lives? It's refreshing when people write positively. We need positiveness in our lives in a big way. However, it is perfectly ok to vent too or complain sometimes in a blog- I do a lot of that myself as I'm human, but I can't believe someone would be so unkind to accuse you of not being honest.

  6. i think your blog is great. i enjoy happy things and if i want anything other than that i will turn on the news. thanks for sharing your growing up years with us. i find them incredibly facinating. keep on being YOU!

  7. There are many folks in this world who are unhappy and seem to have too much time on their hands. Your blog should be just what you make it, and I, like you, choose to make mine mostly about the good things in life. We are faced with bad, scary, ugly things every day when we turn on the news or open a paper. Why shouldn't our blogs be an escape from all that? Focusing on the positive keeps you young and healthy and happy!

  8. I love your blog~
We all know that our lives are full of storms and trials~ such as Sunshine's accident. But through the hard times in life God becomes even sweeter. It is a sign of spiritual growth when we rejoice even through our trials and tribulation. Life is hard but God is always good. Therefore your sweet ~positive outlook each and every day encourages and blesses your readers each time we visit!
Continue to be a Barnabas to us all~ and keep up the good work!
    Blessings~

  9. Great post. Life's too short to dwell on all the bad. I find as I get older I am getting better.

  10. You've posted your true stories on death, sickness, injury, loss, etc. You write beautifully and honestly. I really enjoy your blog.

I agree with you on the mud thing, though I don't require guests to remove their shoes.

I am a sort of health fanatic and can kinda drive people crazy with it. :)

I have no problem going into great, and proud detail about the births of my two children. However, I don't blab to just anyone. If they ask or are willing to hear, I'll tell all!

I agree with you on bad movies, and oftentimes any movie!

I've never been thrown a surprise party (though I've been surprised by having my birthday forgotten a time or two).

I love your blog. You're fun!

  11. Great minds think alike!! I've even been taking a few pics of my annoyances to do a post on it someday. By the way, did I tell you about my 589 hour labor?? It was right after my surprise party - we were celebrating my weight loss. Then we watched a movie. HA HA Way to be normal, girl, that should make your negative e-mail sender much happier now. Whatev!

  12. I agree with you 100%, I guess another pet peeve would be for people who can't mind their own business, I like your pet peeves and I love your outlook on focusing on the happy things and not letting the bad things bother you, wonderful post, HUGS, you have a good day!

  13. Well, I can't imagine complaining about someone focusing on good and happy things, that's a new one for me. I agree with some of your pet peeves though, especially the mud :-)
My kids never seem to notice it on their feet.
    Blessings,

  14. I have really enjoyed your blog. I am with you, I'd rather focus on the positive than the negatives in life. It's not like you're putting your head in the sand, you're just choosing not to let a situation control you.

I find it strange a person feels comfortable in making such comments on your or anyone else's blog. But...whatever? :)

  15. I enjoy your blog, love reading about your youth. The way I look at it - this is our little corner and we write about what intrigues us or is on our mind, if someone does not like it they don't have to read it. Perhaps jeolousy is involved in their comments... who knows, but don't change!

    until next time... nel

  16. I couldn't have said it better myself!
It's your blog, so you get to decide what you put in it.
Neat how it works that way! :)

  17. I am always amazed how people think they can tell someone else what to write about on their blog. I read blogs because I enjoy them, if I dont agree, so what, if I dont like the blog I dont read it, simple.
I enjoy reading about your memories. My kids are always wanting to hear stories about when I was young. I should write them on my blog too.
    take care and blessings.

  18. #2 is my top pet peeve.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think you forgot to put #6: Annoying e-mails from readers who like to nit-pick about your blog! ha ha

Why do some people feel like they can tell you to write or not write on your own blog - Oh brother!

I am with you I like to focus on good and happy things. I don't want to tell you about when my son was sick, or that my root canal hurt, or that I had bad PMS last month who cares and I don't really want to read that on anyone else's blog either.

I love your blog - You keep being you!!!

  20. Funny eh that people think they should say what you Shouldwrite...Its your blog!

  22. I jsut dont undersatnd why people come up with these negative comments. Your blog is what you want it to be, not what they decide it should be.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think it is wonderful that you share happy memories. The Lord knows, we all have our share of sadness. But it is the good part we need to focus on.

Don't let negative people influence you. Nobody wants to hear the bad stuff anyway. It's the good stuff, that lifts us up, and your stories sure lift me up.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Love your blog! We have enough in the news for negativity..we don't want to read about it on peoples blogs! It's your blog, you write what you want!
Some people have nothing else to do that to complain!
    Keep up the wonderful work!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Oh, how I could rant & rave about the negativity in life ... what a sad person to criticize another for having an uplifting, enjoyable daily write of the beautiful side of life.

I do not want to hear your 'issues', nor you mine ... life is too short!

Shame on them ... they are missing the boat with their own negativity.

You are SUCH A JOYFUL part of my day to pop over & be lifted with your wonderful stories. You can never know how many non-bloggers I've referred that are enjoying you, too.

Have a beautiful day, keep up the good work and DELETE the nuisances.
Thank you for being you ~

  26. Ditto that. My husband always tells me that I can "spin" anything, no matter how bad it is. I consider that to be an attribute, not a negative. I dislike folks who constantly emphasize the worst things in life. However, I do find that those blogs seem to attract a lot of attention. It's like watching a car wreck. Many people need to read about the bad things that occur to others in order to make their own lives seem better.
As for me, I'll take the high road, hoping and praying that no one throws me a surprise party either!
    Fondly,
    Joanne

  27. I happen to like your posts just as they are! is there not enough unhappiness in the world? i try to even turn my bad things into good!

    ReplyDelete
  28. What?! Oh, I'm with you. There is plenty of bad to go around and when I create my own little corner of the world in my blog, I like to fill it with good things! And a hearty amen on points 1-4. No one has ever surprised me with a party, for which I should perhaps be grateful. Anyway, maybe the person who sent the e-mail was just having a bad day.

  29. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I'm going to check out yours more as I have some free moments. You were formally Amish? My Hubby wants to become Amish. I don't think he really gets it. We have Amish friends and I love hearing their stories and learning more of how to live a more simple life, by working oh so much harder!

  30. I so agree! The negative is there in everyone's life, but why focus on it? I'll hang onto the positive over the negative any day. And I'm with you on every single one of your pet peeves!

  31. Shame on whomever left you that comment. You know we have so much to be thankful for that sometimes the little let downs in life just don't need to get us down. In church the pastor will ask if anyone has anything going on that they need prayed for or troubles that need lifted up to God, sometimes I really have to think if I have any needs at all. I feel so blessed, and loved and healthy, I have trouble seeing the not so good that might be going on. This doesn't mean I am not troubled, burdened or saddened by things. It means I choose to trust God and let him do for me what he so wants to do.
    God Bless You,
    AMY

  32. OH! I might be on that hit list of pet peeves. I like to talk about childbirth and I LOVE having surprize parties for people. Especially people who are moving away...NOW that is my favorite thing to do for them.

    :)

  33. Philippians 4:8 says, "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."

My mother aways says, "What comes out of the mouth comes from the heart." I think it says a lot about your heart for you to dwell on the positive things in life.

About your last pet peeve...I, too, hate to be surprised! Actually, I surprised everyone when I let my midwife do sonograms on my twins...but I loved knowing ahead of time that they were boy and girl. I like to be able to prepare.

    Thanks for a nice post.

  34. I am new to your blog, and I have to tell you...I have LOVED everything you have written. Your emailer can cruise the blogging world and find many many blogs that just talk about all the negatives, who dedicate their lives to ripping on this or that, or who are WAY to honest about things that should be very very personal (in my opinion). Just like you said, YOU choose to concentrate on the positive...and to all of your readers (and you have MANY!) they must find it refreshing enough to come back again and again.

  35. Hi Joyful,

So nice to meet you! Thanks for dropping by.

    I enjoyed my visit here.

I'm with you on wasting time on a bad movie, one of my pet peeves too.

    Blessings to you♥

  36. Mud does not bother me nor would I expect anyone to remove their shoes before they entered our home.Non-healthy food in moderation is just fine with me.People talking about their birth stories is fine too.If they want to share their experiences with me then let them speak. They obviously cherish that special moment in their life.Surprise parties I would not care for but then I personally do not celebrate any occasions to warrant a party and whilst your emailer should have kept their thoughts to themselves,I do believe that some blogs do over elaborate on the blissful contentment in their homes when it is inevitably not the case but one cannot hold against them the will to wish for that happy lifestyle.Everyone expresses themselves in a different way but we should not judge anyone who wishes to be either positive or negative in their writing.

  37. Tell whoever it was that made the comment that they should watch the news on t.v. - that should give them enough negativity to last a life time. As for your blog, keep up the good work!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I prefer to focus on the positive too. I also agree with you regarding health fanatics. In fact, I dislike fanaticism of any kind -- it makes a person humorless.

  39. Hey, whose blog is this, anyway?

I like positive, happy stories. And I like you. So there.

    I'm glad you deleted it.

  40. There is enough negative in thew world. I vote for positive and cheerful! Thanks for sharing.

  41. I'm really sad that someone would be so critical of you! So sorry that happened!

Now, I may get beat up here but I agree with #2 plus more than what you have written. I cannot pay the prices for so called "organics" and I hate it when people suggest that's the only way to eat properly. First, I can't afford it with the daily increases of food prices. I often have to find my "fresh" veggies off the discount rack looking a bit ragged. I can't afford organic meat anything so I have to choose the chicken that is on sale for 79 cents per pound no matter how it was raised. Life is so expensive these days and this is the best I can do. The good part is that I have the large garden in the summer and am able to freeze a lot of veggies and some fruit. That's as close to organic (or healthy) that we get!

  42. How funny! As if there is something wrong with being pleasant! :D

As crazy as it sounds, though, I LOVE a good birth story. It's at the top of my list.

  43. Funny, I'm just glancing through your blog, and this one makes me chuckle. Sometimes, I feel like my blog is only negative and that I don't portray enough the true happiness I have. Of course, I try to remind myself that most people that read have no idea who I am or know anything about the God I love and serve. I just tend to use blogging as my outlet. That, in general, is where I vent. Anyway, that's my two cents. Glad you paid little mind to the unkind email! I'm enjoying reading through your blog!

  44. I like your blog. Just be you and keep sharing. Everyone is different and have different reasons for starting a blog. Sometimes my blog is pretty serious but it is because of situations I am facing and I want to teach scripturally why I feel as I do. God has blessed me so abundantly. Maybe I should do a few blogs on that.

  45. Your post reminded me of Philippians 4:8. What I like to call the "Whatsoever" verse. We're to think of the true, noble, right, pure and lovey things, so you're just obeying the Lord by posting a lot of the positive things in your life.

  46. Late to this party. I've been following you for years, but decided to go back to the beginning and reread. There is a woman in our congregation who suffers from celiac disease - and we all suffer, too. If she could only learn to talk about something other than her lower digestive tract, she might be fun to know.
